UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1, UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science | Animal and Crop Sciences, Temporary 24 months (15 November 2026 - 14 November 2028)
Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science | Animal and Crop Sciences.
This position is funded by HERDPATH, an ERC Starting Grant project investigating how livestock and their pathogens have co-evolved over the last 10,000 years. The successful candidate will lead the deep analysis of livestock genomes - principally sheep and goat, drawing on data from other domesticates - generated from archaeological remains across Eurasia and spanning the Neolithic to the present day. Working with these millennia-spanning genomic transects alongside large modern reference panels, the role centres on reconstructing demographic history, detecting and dating signatures of selection, and characterising how host genetic variation has responded to pathogen pressure since domestication. The successful candidate will apply and develop population genetic approaches suited to time-series and low-coverage ancient data, and will contribute to identifying genetic targets relevant to the breeding of disease-resistant animals.
Salary Range: €47,273 - €47,880 Per Annum
Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
