Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or 2 within the School of Civil Engineering
NETSENS will develop the next-generation concept of indirect monitoring of bridge networks - using the acceleration responses collected by sensors installed on moving vehicles. It will develop robust drive-by bridge damage detection methods by overcoming the interference from environmental and operational variables using the concept of cointegration. In addition, Deep Convolutional Generative Adversarial Networks will be developed to generate labelled datasets for drive-by bridge damage detection, when only drive-by data for the healthy state are available. NETSENS will also develop the first population-based drive-by bridge monitoring method. Instead of collecting the training data from a single bridge, data from a population of bridges will be collected. A novel drive-by bridge damage classification method will be developed using the concept of physics-guided deep neural networks. For this purpose, a novel cross physics-data domain loss function will be created which will fuse labelled features obtained from numerical models and the measured responses. Finally, a network-level bridge diagnostic algorithm will be developed using the concept of domain adaptation. This will include a generalized drive-by bridge damage classification method, where the labelled data from a bridge is leveraged to detect new instances of damage in other bridges of the network.
PD1 Salary Range: €47,273 - €53,925 per annum
Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
PD2 Fixed Salary: €55,399 per annum
