Job Description TTM Healthcare Solutions is currently recruiting for a Medical Laboratory Aide to join a busy hospital laboratory team. Working Hours: 39 hours per week Hours: Monday to Friday, Full Time Purpose of the Post To assist scientific staff in performing, routine, specialized, and research and development testing to the highest professional standards for the greater need of the patients. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Perform work to the highest standard, as determined by laboratory management. Observe the strictest confidence when dealing with all aspects of patient or hospital information. Demonstrate behaviour consistent with the values of the hospital. Receive, sort and collate all samples from GPs and other Hospitals on arrival in the Laboratory. Microbiology samples are sent to Microbiology for labelling. Date and time stamp all request forms. When transport boxes are used, ensure that the temperature on receipt of samples is recorded and within limits. Replace inner plastic bag. Ensure that all samples are labelled in accordance with standard operating procedures GOP-M/L/2. Ensure all samples are delivered to appropriate departments in a timely fashion Enter all external requests into computer and print out form, add test requests to the form as required. Receipt all results from external Laboratories on to LIS as per GOP-M/L/7 Check outstanding referral list each month as per GOP-M/L/7. Collate requests for supplies from Wards, Hospitals and GPs. Package and prepare urgent supplies for distribution if Laboratory attendant is not available. Monitoring of supplies stocks. Reporting stock shortages to senior laboratory staff and requesting stocks as appropriate. Participate in safe and efficient use of supplies within the laboratory. Provide a list of rejections on a monthly basis to Quality Officer Provide cover for other lab aides during absences e.g. annual leave. Attend Laboratory meetings as required. The job may require that you provide Laboratory Aide support in the various departments within the Laboratory, duties which will be determined by Laboratory Manager and the Departmental manager. As the service needs of the organisation changes the above duties will be subject to change and flexibility will be required. Essential Requirements Previous experience working in a laboratory or healthcare environment is desirable. Must be eligible to work in Ireland. Good organisational and administrative skills. Ability to follow laboratory procedures and protocols accurately. Strong attention to detail, particularly when handling specimens and documentation. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Basic computer skills and confidence using computerised systems. Understanding of the importance of confidentiality when dealing with patient and laboratory information. Commitment to health and safety, infection prevention, and quality standards.
