Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Research IT Programmer within the School of Mathematics and Statistics Aimsir Centre

This 4-year fixed-term post is funded to lead the software engineering, data infrastructure, and computational workflows for the Aimsir Centre (AI for Meteorological Services, Innovation and Research) within the UCD School of Mathematics and Statistics. The Scientific Software Engineer will design, build, and maintain robust computational pipelines, real-time data ingestion systems, and scalable machine learning infrastructure supporting state-of-the-art AI weather models.

Reporting to the Centre Director, Met Éireann Professor Andrew Parnell, the successful candidate will manage end-to-end data pipelines streaming from a nationwide citizen-science weather sensor network across 560 post-primary schools. The engineer will primarily use Google Cloud Platform (GCP) as their primary cloud ecosystem. The role holder will work autonomously to support academic researchers, implement FAIR data principles, containerise software models, and facilitate software integration with external stakeholders, including Met Éireann.

Salary Scale: €60,000 - €70,000 per annum

Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
