Postdoctoral Researcher APC Microbiome Ireland

11 Months Fixed Term, Whole Time Post

Infection with viruses, such as SARS-CoV-2, can lead to long term debilitating symptoms via mechanisms that are currently poorly understood. We appreciate that the composition and metabolic activity of the intestinal microbiota can impact immune function and microbe-immune interactions may contribute to recovery from infectious diseases. We are looking for an enthusiastic Immunologist to join our team as a postdoctoral researcher. At a minimum, applicants should have prior experience of working with murine models of infection and/or murine models of allergy, especially gnotobiotic models. Applicants who also have prior experience with examining mucosal lymphocyte polarisation in response to bacterial-derived metabolites will be prioritised.

APC Microbiome Ireland was formed in 2003 and since then, it has established itself as one of the leading global centres in gut microbiota research. The Centre has made several landmark discoveries and published over 2500 research articles in peer-reviewed journals, generating many journal covers and associated editorials. The APC is a lively multidisciplinary environment with clinicians, clinician-scientists and basic scientists from diverse backgrounds working in teams, sharing ideas and resources.

UCC is an accredited research organisation and as such can form hosting agreements with third country nationals (and non-EEA nationals) for the purpose of conducting research in the University.
