As an Optical Planning Engineer working within AWS Infrastructure you will:
- Design and plan our global optical transport networks, including DWDM and dark fiber infrastructure
- Develop capacity plans to scale optical network designs ahead of customer demand
- Create and maintain planning tools, processes, and frameworks that support optical network growth and operations
- Collaborate closely with Network Engineering, Capacity, and Deployment teams to translate demand forecasts into actionable build plans
- Evaluate alternative optical technologies and equipment, driving technical assessments and commercial tender processes
- Ensure all optical network designs adhere to defined architecture standards and long-term capacity strategies
- Produce detailed optical design packages, feasibility studies, and span analysis reports for new and existing sites
- Drive planning excellence initiatives to improve accuracy, lead time, and quality across the optical delivery pipeline
- Identify and resolve complex planning challenges, developing innovative solutions to optimize network performance and cost

This is a high-visibility role at the intersection of network strategy and infrastructure delivery, with direct impact on one of the world's largest cloud networks.
Key job responsibilities
Network Development Engineers perform high quality network and/or systems operations, deployments, scaling, technology refresh, sustaining engineering, best practices application, optimization, internal/external customer interactions, and produce appropriate technical documentation.
Your core job responsibility is to design network designs, services and deployment procedures that solve for many requirements.
Together, you and your leadership team will decide on the projects that best support your team's mission.
You and your team will design ahead of customer or technology needs, always predicting and solving for problems that have not yet occurred. This takes the form of creating and defending High Level Design (HLD) and Low Level Design (LLD) documents, working with internal stakeholders to influence technology roadmaps, constructing and testing your solutions, and providing support to the teams that will deploy and operate these designs.
You will create and automate deployment processes that increases quality and velocity.
You will Work closely with our internal customers on designs/solutions; bringing those designs/solutions from concept to production
