Job Purpose
The Clinical Nurse Manager (CNM) in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU) is responsible for providing professional, clinical, and managerial leadership to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centred care. The post holder will lead and support nursing staff, promote excellence in clinical practice, and ensure that care is delivered in accordance with professional standards, hospital policies, and national guidelines.The Clinical Nurse Manager will coordinate the daily operational management of the ICU/HDU, ensuring effective utilisation of resources, maintaining patient safety, and fostering a culture of continuous quality improvement. Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, the CNM will support service development, staff education, clinical governance, and the achievement of positive patient outcomes while contributing to the strategic objectives of the organisation.

Essential Criteria
Each candidate must, at the latest date for receipt of completed applications for the post possess:
1a. Professional Qualifications & Experience
(i) Are registered in the relevant Division of the Register of Nurses kept by An Bord Altranais agus Cnaimhseachais na hEireann (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland) or be entitled to be so registered
And
(ii) Have at least 3 years post registration experience (or an aggregate of 3 years post registration full time experience) of which 1 post registration full time experience (or an aggregate of 1 years post registration full time experience) must be in the specialty area or related areaAnd
(iii) Have the clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role And
(iv) Candidates must demonstrate evidence of Continuing Professional Development PG DIP in Critical Care Nursing
2. Annual Registration
(i) On appointment, Practitioners must maintain live annual registration on the relevant division of the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (Board Altranais agus Cnaimhseachais na hEireann).
And
(ii) Confirm annual registration with NMBI to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).
3. HealthA candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
4. CharacterEach candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.
