Job Description Build the Quality Laboratory Behind the Next Generation of Biotech Manufacturing QC Microbiology Analyst What if your microbiology expertise could help establish and support a cutting-edge biotech quality laboratory - while giving you hands-on experience across GMP microbiology, rapid analytical technologies and laboratory qualification? This is an opportunity to join a high-performing pharmaceutical quality team supporting the development of a new biotech manufacturing facility in Swords, Dublin. Working alongside experienced Quality, Microbiology and technical professionals, you'll play an important role in establishing laboratory readiness, performing critical microbiological testing, supporting analytical method transfers and helping ensure laboratory activities meet the highest standards of GMP, quality and data integrity. What you'll achieve (and why it matters) Perform a range of routine microbiological testing within a GMP-regulated QC laboratory. Conduct environmental monitoring, WFI and water testing, bioburden, growth promotion and microbial identification activities. Perform in-process and final product microbiological testing. Carry out endotoxin testing, including rapid and kinetic turbidimetric techniques. Support the implementation and use of Rapid Microbiological Methods across the laboratory. Contribute to laboratory readiness and the qualification of microbiology laboratory equipment. Support microbiological analytical method transfers and method qualification activities. Receive, manage and test samples associated with stability, in-process and release activities. Prepare reagents and support routine laboratory cleaning, maintenance and housekeeping activities. Calibrate and maintain designated laboratory instruments. Complete laboratory documentation accurately and on time, maintaining strong standards of data integrity and GMP compliance. Work with LIMS and ensure laboratory records are maintained in accordance with approved procedures. Follow current pharmacopoeial methods, specifications, regulations and applicable industry standards. Support the preparation and revision of SOPs, protocols and technical documentation. Participate in risk assessments, audits, inspections and incident investigations. Support the implementation and follow-up of corrective and preventative actions. Maintain current training and ensure all laboratory activities are performed by appropriately trained personnel. Support the training and development of new QC analysts, sharing microbiology expertise and best practice. Support laboratory supply management, including ordering, receiving and maintaining appropriate stock levels. Contribute to Quality Management System activities and maintain high standards of GLP and cGMP. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and contribute to Lean Six Sigma initiatives. Work collaboratively with Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering and other cross-functional teams. Contribute to the development of an innovative, efficient and compliant microbiology laboratory environment. Maintain a strong focus on patient safety, product quality, compliance and Right First Time principles. Your edge (desired, not required) Bachelor's degree or equivalent third-level qualification in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Science or another relevant scientific discipline. Previous experience in QC Microbiology, analytical microbiology or a related pharmaceutical laboratory role. Experience working within a GMP/cGMP-regulated pharmaceutical or biotechnology environment. Practical experience with environmental monitoring, WFI/water testing, bioburden, endotoxin or microbial identification. Experience with growth promotion testing and microbiological testing of in-process or finished products. Exposure to Rapid Microbiological Methods or rapid endotoxin technologies. Experience with kinetic turbidimetric endotoxin testing would be advantageous. Experience with LIMS and electronic laboratory systems. Understanding of data integrity requirements and GMP documentation practices. Experience working with pharmacopoeial methods, specifications and laboratory SOPs. Exposure to microbiological method transfer, qualification or validation activities. Experience supporting laboratory equipment qualification or laboratory readiness activities. Experience writing or revising SOPs, protocols or technical reports. Exposure to deviations, investigations, CAPAs, risk assessments, audits or regulatory inspections. Experience training, mentoring or supporting other QC analysts. Knowledge or experience of Lean Six Sigma and continuous improvement methodologies would be beneficial. Strong attention to detail with excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills. A proactive, collaborative and solutions-focused approach. Comfortable working in a fully onsite laboratory environment. Flexibility to work a 12-hour day-shift pattern of 4 days on / 4 days off, 7:00am-7:00pm.
