Senior Design Civil Engineer

Tetra Tech is looking for a Senior Civil Design Engineer to shape major infrastructure delivery with a technically respected team. If you are looking for a role where civil design expertise, digital delivery and engineering judgement truly matter, this is an opportunity to make a visible impact on high-profile infrastructure projects across Ireland.

Purpose & Scope of the Role

As a Senior Civil Design Engineer, you will support the delivery of complex civil and utilities design work across major infrastructure and development schemes. Working within a 3D design environment, you will produce and update drawings, develop technical outputs in Civil 3D, contribute to reports and design notes, and respond to client comments and technical queries.

You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams and communicate professionally with clients through email, Teams and meetings. The role calls for technical accuracy, ownership of output and a strong commitment to quality.

This is a varied and demanding position with exposure to significant infrastructure projects, including major legacy schemes as well as smaller utilities and drainage works such as pumping stations, pipeline diversions, cable diversions, manholes and ancillary structures.

Your Impact in this position

In the early stages, you will build a strong understanding of the team, clients and delivery standards while contributing directly to live design work.

Over time, you will broaden your technical experience through exposure to major infrastructure projects, strengthen your client communication skills and develop confidence in producing and reviewing technical outputs.

Longer term, this role offers genuine career progression, professional development and the opportunity to grow within a collaborative team that is highly regarded for technical delivery.

Core Capabilities

Civil Design and Digital Delivery
You will bring strong hands-on civil design capability and confidence working in a 3D environment. Experience with Autodesk Civil 3D and related tools will help you develop practical, buildable and standards-compliant solutions, with a strong focus on accuracy, coordination and high-quality output.

Technical Judgement and Standards Compliance
You will apply sound civil engineering judgement to complex design challenges, interpret project constraints effectively and ensure outputs align with relevant standards, utility requirements and project expectations. A practical, measured approach will be essential where interfaces and technical complexity are high.

Client Communication and Responsiveness
You will communicate clearly and professionally with clients and external stakeholders, particularly through written responses, virtual meetings and technical correspondence. You will take ownership of queries, respond constructively to comments and represent the design team with credibility and confidence.

Technical Reporting and Quality Assurance
You will contribute to technical reports, design notes and multidisciplinary submissions with care and precision. This role suits someone who reviews content critically, understands the wider project context and ensures deliverables are coherent, accurate and aligned to the brief.

Collaborative Delivery and Adaptability
You will work effectively across multidisciplinary teams in a fast-moving environment, balancing independent delivery with strong team collaboration. You will be comfortable adapting to changing project demands and contributing positively to a high-performing engineering team.

Training, Qualifications and Experience

A degree in Civil Engineering is essential, alongside relevant design or construction experience gained in consultancy, contracting or a similar technical environment. You should have practical experience in civil design, utilities, drainage, pipeline or related infrastructure work, and either hold or be working towards professional accreditation or chartership.

Working Environment

This role is based in Ireland, with Dublin preferred. Cork, Galway, Sligo and Limerick may also be considered.

Hybrid working is available, with an expectation of two to three days per week in the office once established in post. During probation, five days per week in the office will be expected to support onboarding, collaboration and team integration. Flexible working may be available depending on project needs, but regular in-person engagement is important to support delivery and coordination.
