Salary: NCAD Assistant Lecturer New Entrant salary scale - €49,426 - €67,233* per annum pro rata, i.e. €24,713 - €33,616.50 per annum
*Candidates should note that as per Department of Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform guidelines, new entrants to the civil service will be at the minimum point of the scale and the rate of remuneration will not be subject to negotiation and may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy. Fine Art
The School of Fine Art within the College comprises of 5 departments:
• Department of Painting
• Department of Print
• Department of Media
• Department of Applied Materials
• Department of Sculpture and Expanded Practices
The School of Fine Art is vibrant, busy and supports students to develop individual and collaborative ways of seeing, interpreting, and acting visually in the world. Emphasis is placed on visual awareness and creative and critical analysis, to support new relationships to art practice momentum. Fine art practitioners are innovators and combine research and practice to develop new work, acquiring and deploying appropriate skills, new insights and ways of communicating for our time. The School teaches UG, Masters and PhD Students
School of Fine Art - Studio +
Studio+ is an optional bespoke year of study at the National College of Art and Design. Taken between Year 2 and Year 4 of undergraduate study, it supports mainly Fine Art students to immerse themselves in real-world work environments, pursue international Erasmus exchanges, choose to engage in civic or community projects or to explore developing further art practices and skills in relation to a variety of thematic strands of enquiry - with Erasmus incoming students and Design and VC Students)
The Fine Art Studio + programme is designed as an outward facing encounter and supports students to build unique learning experiences. It seeks to offer students a sense of independence and growing professionalism as they work individually and collaboratively with each other and in relation to relevant contexts, resources and opportunities.
Teaching and learning occurs in interdisciplinary contexts with students bringing related but diverse practice backgrounds. The further student opportunities to build networks, connections and enthusiasms is a feature of this year.
The successful Teaching candidates will operate primarily within the School of Fine Art and develop, deliver and work with the Studio + Co-ordinator in aspects of planning, delivery and operational aspects of thematic strands and internal promotion and with staff meetings. Academic oversight will remain the Heads of School and Departments.
The role will likely require contributions to other modules and year groups within the School of Fine Art as appropriate, and the wider College as required.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
• Actively contribute to postgraduate and undergraduate teaching programmes across the School of Fine Art in particular within the Studio+ programme, including module or programme design and delivery, examination and assessment, quality assurance and enhancement and associated administration.
• Support the delivery of related content within the School of Fine Art undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
• Enhance and promote the reputation of the School of Fine Art and Studio+ programme by liaising and co-operating with other national and international institutions.
• Ensure that the content of our teaching reflects and meet with the requirements of related fields, including regularly reviewing and adapting course content and structure.
• Engage in the student recruitment process including interviews, selection, assessments and examination procedures as required to ensure appropriate number and level of student cohort.
• Engage with field and research partners, leading projects and knowledge exchange activities where appropriate.
• Contribute to the general administration of the Department /Year
• Contribute to the academic life of the Department, School and College.
• Contribute to the wider educational community.
• Undertake such other appropriate duties as may be assigned by the Appropriate Officer from time to time
Selection Criteria:
Selection criteria outline the qualifications, skills, knowledge and/or experience that the successful candidate would need to demonstrate for successful discharge of the responsibilities of the post. Applications will be assessed on the basis of how well candidates satisfy these criteria.
Mandatory:
• A significant track record in teaching contemporary Fine Art Practice (or a related field) through industry practice and/or Higher Education.
• A minimum of 3 years' experience of delivering high quality teaching within a higher education environment or industry
• Post-graduate degree in Fine Art or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Strong, demonstrable commitment to research and international scholarship/professional practice/publication.
• Capacity and enthusiasm for working in an interdisciplinary context within the Department, School and College.
• Proficiency in working digitally (to enable fluent communications, administration and operation of Canvas Classroom.
• Commitment to CPD and interest in emerging research, teaching and learning and skills .
• Experience in working with new Fine Art methods, tools and processes, maintaining an active interest in related research within the sector.
• Experience of working with emerging digital technologies.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Desirable:
• Demonstrable record of developing and maintaining links with industry and educational partners.
• Demonstrable record of developing successful research funding applications and/or industry partnerships.
