Accounts/Payroll Assistant

Reporting To: Financial Controller / Finance Manager

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accounts & Payroll Assistant to join our finance team at our Head Office in Sandyford, Dublin. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a growing residential property development company, supporting the day-to-day finance and payroll functions that underpin our business operations.
The successful candidate will assist with payroll processing, purchase ledger, supplier payments, reconciliations, and general accounting administration while ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with company policies and statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll
  • Assist in the preparation and processing of weekly and monthly payrolls.
  • Ensure accurate recording of employee hours, salaries, deductions, pensions, and benefits.
  • Process starters, leavers, and employee payroll amendments.
  • Liaise with HR regarding payroll changes and employee records.
  • Ensure compliance with Revenue requirements, PAYE Modernisation, and relevant employment legislation.
  • Respond to payroll-related queries from employees in a professional and confidential manner.
Accounts
  • Process supplier invoices accurately and promptly.
  • Prepare supplier payment runs.
  • Reconcile supplier statements and resolve invoice queries.
  • Perform bank reconciliations.
  • Assist with accounts receivable and credit control where required.
  • Post journals and maintain accurate accounting records.
  • Support month-end and year-end financial reporting processes.
  • Assist with VAT returns and other statutory reporting as required.
  • Maintain organised financial records and supporting documentation.
Administration
  • Assist with general finance administration and reporting.
  • Prepare financial schedules and management reports.
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal departments.
  • Identify opportunities to improve finance processes and controls.
  • Undertake other finance duties as required by the Finance Manager.
Skills & ExperienceEssential
  • 2-4 years' experience in an accounts and/or payroll position.
  • Experience using accounting software (Sage, Surf Accounts, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of payroll processes and Irish payroll legislation.
  • Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High level of integrity and confidentiality.
Desirable
  • Accounting Technician qualification or equivalent.
  • Payroll qualification (IPASS or similar).
  • Experience within construction, property development, or a related industry.
  • Knowledge of CIS and Relevant Contracts Tax (RCT) would be advantageous.
