Theatre Healthcare Assistant - UPMC Aut Even Hospital

Overview of role:

UPMC are hiring a Theatre Healthcare Assistant to join our team in Aut Even Hospital Kilkenny to assist the theatre team with the day to day running of the Theatre Department.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the safe transfer of patients into a clinical area, while in the theatre or endoscopy or the recovery area as well as other relevant hospital areas as required.
  • Assist in the positioning of patients
  • To assist in preparing the theatre at the start of the day
  • Support the RGN and theatre staff in the delivery of effective and efficient patient care.
  • Work as a 2nd assistant to the surgeon assisting with surgical intervention as directed such as holding prosthetics etc.
  • Assist with the collection, packaging and transport of specimens as directed by the theatre nurse/team.
  • Stock Management - replenish sterile stocks as appropriate ensuring stock rotation.
  • Ensure specified procedure areas and trolleys are stocked.
  • Prepare and open sterile packs, instrument sets, sundries and pour lotions.
  • Position relevant theatre equipment as appropriate.
  • Assist with the gowning and gloving of theatre and medical staff if required
  • Ensure items for disposal are correctly bagged/binned and ready for collection as per waste disposal policy.
  • Clean equipment surfaces, ensuring solutions used conforms to infection control policies.
  • Report any faults of fabric, furniture or equipment.
  • Ensure all supporting equipment and consumables are available and fit for purpose.
  • Be familiar with the pre-cleaning stage, leak testing, manual cleaning, storage and transportation of endoscopes.
  • Ensure an adequate supply of fluids is available in all clinical areas.
  • Check that all clinical and non-clinical waste has been removed from the dirty clinical areas.
  • Ensure that laundry has been removed from changing areas and dirty utility areas and placed in the appropriate place.
  • Keep the changing areas in a neat and tidy manner.
  • Ensure an adequate supply of theatre attire is available in the changing areas.
  • Assemble all required theatre equipment for the patient lists in the theatres and scope rooms.
  • Ensure an adequate supply of procedure packs, drapes and gowns.
  • Deliver the stores order into the relevant store rooms.
  • Clean the floor areas between procedures.
  • Transport instruments to CSSD after each theatre case for reprocessing
  • Ensure all equipment used e.g. patient trolleys; are cleaned daily and in good working order and safe for use for patients. Report any defects noted and mark equipment "out of order"
  • To work and to assist in maintaining the highest level of Health and Safety Standards within the work area and report any untoward or unusual incidents or accidents within this brief in order to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and colleagues and at all times complying with the Hospital Health and Safety Statement.
  • Collect and deliver pharmacy order if required.
  • Assist with cleaning duties not covered by household staff.
  • To perform any other tasks as may be assigned from time to time by any member of the theatre management team.


Qualifications & Experience:

Qualifications:
  • Evidence of FETAC Level 5 or evidence of currently working towards qualification

Experience:
  • Experience in a hospital theatre environment would be advantageous

Salary: €34,647.06-€42,177.91 per annum based on a 39 hour work week
