Deputy CEO

This role can be based in any of NEWKD's offices.

What is the purpose of the job?

This is a senior role within the organisation and entails providing cover for the CEO during periods of absence - including annual leave -, along with working with the CEO to provide strategic leadership, overseeing all programmes in the context of the management of our Beneficiary Experience Strategic Sub Theme.

Main Responsibilities of the job (Job Description)

Strategic Planning and Service Development:

The Deputy CEO will work with the CEO and leadership teams to:
  • Support organisational change in line with the our ethos and strategy.
  • Define short, medium and long-term goals, priorities and initiatives;
  • Implement the organisation's strategic plan.


Leadership:
  • The Deputy CEO will provide leadership and guidance to senior managers, and foster collaboration, alignment and accountability across the organisation, overseeing the management of all programmes across Strategic Theme 2 - Supporting Community Led Local Development and Theme 3 - Supporting Economic Opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain partner and stakeholder relations.
  • Work across functional areas and with stakeholders to achieve the organisation's strategic goals and objectives.
  • Promote and support a culture of collaboration and service integration across the organisation.


Representation and Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Represent the organisation to external stakeholders, including funders, the Board of Management and various committees as required.


Operational Excellence
  • In collaboration with the CEO, provide support to the leadership team to ensure efficient, productive high-quality day-to-day operations.
  • Support the development and implementation of quality programmes and systems.
  • Seek feedback from stakeholders to improve service delivery.
  • Oversee operational functions to ensure compliance with good corporate governance practices.


Financial Planning Management, and Reporting
  • Agree and monitor budgets as required.


Person Specification

Experience, Skills and Knowledge

The Deputy CEO should be able to demonstrate the following:

Experience (Essential)
  • Strategic and annual planning.
  • Business administration and financial management.
  • Support the preparation of proposals for tenders and/or funding submissions.
  • Perform work supervision.
  • Lead, manage and motivate people and teams.
  • The ability to research and identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
  • Manage change and collaborative working.
  • Willingness and capacity to take and implement instruction.


Knowledge
  • Understanding of the dynamics of the community and voluntary sector (essential)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of strategic policy issues and is sensitive to wider political and organisational priorities.
  • Capacity to understand the breadth of the work carried out.
  • Has core knowledge and implementation of corporate governance compliance.

The person should have:

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • The ability to manage and drive a diverse range of responsibilities.
  • Excellent IT skills with experience of CRM or similar software systems
  • Expertise in project management and planning.
  • The ability to manage ambiguity and change in a complex and dynamic environment.
  • The skill to handle difficult conversations through considerate discussion and persuasion.
  • Commitment to the ethos and values of the organisation
  • Communicate and lead out on the organisation's vision and purpose and can contribute to strategy development.
  • Effectively communicates with internal and external stakeholders, clearly articulating the organisation's purpose and bringing internal and external stakeholders with them.
  • Can effectively represent the organisation at public events and communicate with the media as required.


Terms and Conditions of Employment

Location: Current Location

Contract Type:

An indefinite contract subject to the completion of a successful probationary review.

Annual Leave: Per employment handbook

Travel & Subsistence: Travel and subsistence will be paid at public sector rates

Probation / Acting: While a probation period will not apply, the successful candidate will receive feedback on a 6 weekly basis or as required for the first 6 months in the role, which may be in an acting capacity.

Pension: NewKD operates a defined contribution group pension scheme. Employees have access to the scheme on successful completion of their six-month probationary period, where relevant.
