Applications are invited for the position of Research Assistant to join the Climate Impacts and Adaptation research group within the Coastal & Marine Systems (CMS) Research Area of the Sustainability Institute at University College Cork. The position is based at the Beaufort Building, Haulbowline Road, Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork, Ireland.
The successful candidate will join an international, interdisciplinary consortium delivering on an exciting new Horizon Europe project - AMPLIFY - which focuses on strengthening Europe's disaster preparedness and resilience. This is to be achieved by connecting citizens, authorities, civil society, first responders and creative practitioners to co-create inclusive, context-specific risk communication solutions that move beyond awareness to action.
The successful candidate will support the Project Co-ordinator and play a leading role in ensuring project delivery especially with regard to managing stakeholders and stakeholder events. The role includes planning and facilitating stakeholder workshops, supporting related research and evaluation, and liaising with artists to develop innovative ways of conveying risk.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in research funded projects, preferably in a University research environment, a strong background in social science research, stakeholder engagement and disaster risk management.

Research Assistant
This title will apply to a person of appropriate qualifications e.g., BSc or an MSc, employed on a contract for the purpose of assisting in the performance of research in the University. A Research Assistant will usually work under the direction of one or more Principal Investigator's/Senior Researchers within a dedicated laboratory on one or more research projects.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• To work under the direction of the Principal Investigator/Project Leader.
• To provide assistance in conducting research activities, including planning, organizing, conducting, and communicating research studies within the overall scope of a research project.
• To coordinate and perform a variety of independent and team activities involved in the collection, analysis, documentation and some interpretation of information/results.
• To undertake tasks which may include recording results and preparing technical reports including conclusions and recommendations. To coordinate the development of forms, questionnaires and the application of qualitative and quantitative research techniques; write procedures manuals for data collection and coding.
• To present information on research progress and outcomes to others responsible for the research project.
• To provide guidance as required to any support staff and/or research students assisting with the research project, as agreed with the Principal Investigator/Grant holder.
• Ideally to contribute to the publication of findings.
• To confer with the Principal Investigator in developing plans for research projects and to discuss the interpretation of results and the preparation of manuscripts for publication.
• To perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
• Support in organising and facilitating community and policy-related workshops and consortium meetings.
• Support Project Coordinator in developing and adhering to ethical guidelines, data management and reporting procedures.
• Collate and analyse qualitative research and evaluation data, synthesise and visualise findings for different audiences.
• Compile digital, and physical communications materials in support of stakeholder engagement activities.

The Sustainability Institute, formerly the Environmental Research Institute (ERI) at University College Cork was established in 2000 as a flagship University Institute to bring together researchers to address complex global sustainability challenges using a transdisciplinary approach. The Sustainability Institute is a UCC Futures Institute. UCC Futures is an ambitious new programme of research prioritisation coupled with an innovative academic recruitment strategy across ten indicative areas of strategic importance that will build a foundation for economic, societal and cultural resilience and prosperity. The Sustainability Institute constitutes an important part of UCC's strategy to develop interdisciplinary research institutes that have a critical mass of world-class researchers in prioritised research areas to enable a more strategic approach, create an interdisciplinary research environment, develop capacity, and engage coherently with industry and society.
The Sustainability Institute is recognised for its expertise in environmental, marine, energy, sustainable materials, and sustainable food research, and is focused on addressing three global environmental challenges: Climate Action, Circular Economy, and Healthy Environment. The Institute currently has over 400 researchers from 20 disciplines and incorporates a number of research centres including: Rinn Energy, Centre for Research on Atmospheric Chemistry (CRAC), the Cleaner Production and Promotion Unit (CPPU) and Centre for Law and the Environment (CLE). The Sustainability Institute has a unique and outstanding physical space for conducting research with substantial research facilities at its two dedicated buildings, the Ellen Hutchins Building on the Lee Road, Cork and the Beaufort Building, Ringaskiddy which houses the Lir National Ocean test Facility (NOTF) along with research facilities across UCC campus.
Salary: €34,129 - €44,311 p.a. (IUA RA Scale)
The rate of remuneration for all appointments may be adjusted from time to time in line with government policy.
Normal hours of duty are 39 hours per week with 60 minutes for lunch daily.

- Ensuring that all work under their control, is undertaken safely and without risk to health and complies with the provision of all relevant statutory legislation
