Purpose of the Post

The purpose and function of the Clinical Nurse Specialist - Eating Disorder Adults is totake responsibility for completing a bio-psychosocial assessment, review and care plan toassist recovery.The Clinical Nurse Specialist (Mental Health) - Eating Disorder will work collaborativelywith patients and families to provide education, information, advice and review physicaland psychological wellbeing in accordance with best practice guidelines andrecommendations specific to NICE Guidance (2017) and the Eating Disorder NationalModel of Care for Ireland (2018).The Clinical Nurse Specialist (Mental Health) - Eating Disorder will work collaborativelywith the Clinical Lead for Eating Disorders, and report directly to the Assistant Director ofNursing to ensure there is a coordinated focus on the day to day running of the EatingDisorders Service. This position will involve managing clients suffering with a diagnosis ofEating Disorders as recognised in DSM V or ICD 10.

CaseloadClinical Nurse Specialist (Mental Health) - Eating Disorder will focus on adult patients'resident in the 'Hub area' as per Eating Disorder Model of Care (age range 18 - 65 yearsof age) who experience acute and enduring Eating Disorders and present in a range ofclinical settings i.e. acute hospital settings, community etc.The purpose of the Clinical Nurse Specialist (Mental Health) - Eating Disorder Adults is apivotal role in the delivery of effective, recovery orientated, high quality, and team based,integrated care for individuals with mental health problems in the community.The purpose of the post is the delivery of care in line with the five core concepts of theClinical Nurse Specialist role as defined by the NCNM 4th edition (2008) in order to fulfilthe role.

The concepts are: Clinical Focus Patient/Client Advocate Education and Training Audit and Research Consultant

Essential Criteria

Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:

i) Be a registered nurse/midwife on the active Register of Nurses and Midwivesheld by An Bord Altranais and Cnaimhseachais na hEireann (Nursing andMidwifery Board of Ireland) or be eligible to be so registered.ANDii) Be registered in the division(s) of Mental Health, of the Nursing and MidwiferyBoard of Ireland (Bord Altranais agus Cnaimhseachais na hEireann) Registerfor which the application is being made or be entitled to be so registered.ANDiii) Have a minimum of 1 years' post registration full time experience or anaggregate of 1 years' full time experience in the division of the register inwhich the application is being made (taking into account (ii) (iii) if relevant)ANDiv) Have a minimum of 1 years' experience or an aggregate of 1 years' full timeexperience in specialist area of Mental Health.ANDv) Have successfully completed a post registration programme of study, ascertified by the education provider which verifies that the applicant hasachieved a Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI), National Framework ofQualifications (NFQ) major academic Level 9 or higher award that is relevantto the specialist area of Mental Health (equivalent to 60 ECTS or above), andin line with the requirements for specialist practice as set out by the NationalCouncil for Nursing and Midwifery 4th ed (2008).

Alternatively provide written evidence from the Higher Education Institute thatthey have achieved the number of ECTS credits equivalent to a Level 9 orhigher standard, relevant to the specialist area of mental health (equivalent to60 ECTS or above), and in line with the requirements for specialist practice asset out by the National Council for Nursing and Midwifery 4th ed (2008). (See**Note 1 below).

ANDvi) Be required to demonstrate that they have continuing professionaldevelopment (CPD) relevant to the specialist area.ANDvii) Have the ability to practice safely and effectively fulfilling his/her professionalresponsibility within his/her scope of practice.

**Note 1: For Nurses/Midwives who express an interest in CNS/CMS roles and whocurrently hold a level 8 educational qualification in the specialist area (equivalent to60 ECTS or above), this qualification will be recognised up to September 2026.

ANDb) Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability, including a high standardof suitability and clinical, leadership, managerial and administrative capacity for the properdischarge of the duties of the office.

Annual Registration

(i) Practitioners must maintain live annual registration on the appropriate/relevant divisionof the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board ofIreland (Bord Altranais agus Cnaimhseachais na hEireann).And(ii) Practitioners must confirm annual registration with NMBI to the HSE by way of theannual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).HealthA candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable ofundertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as wouldindicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.CharacterEach candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.

Clinical Nurse Specialist (Mental Health) - Eating DisorderThe candidate must clearly demonstrate the necessary level of professional knowledgeand experience relating to the area of Eating Disorders, the management and care relatingto this area in line with the role core concepts of clinical focus, patient/client advocate,education and training, audit and research, consultant, across a number of settingsincluding but not limited to: Inpatients Continuing Care Rehabilitation Managing Challenging Behaviours Primary/Secondary Care settings
