Consultant Radiologist

Job Purpose

The Consultant Radiologist will provide general radiology services on a permanent basis at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda and Our Lady's Hospital Navan based on the Public Only Consultant Contract 2023 with a commitment of 18.5 hours per week at Our Lady's Hospital Navan Hospital and 18.5 hours per week at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.

The activity of the radiology department has been steadily increasing from 143,101 in 2018 to 175,775 in 2023. The number of CT scans increased from 17,005 in 2018 to 22,191 in 2023. The number of MRI examinations increased from 10,103 in 2018 to 17,876 in 2023. The addition of a 2nd CT and MRI scanners has increased these numbers substantially.

The appointment of a consultant radiologist is necessary to meet the demand for additional and increasing radiology services in the Louth/Meath Hospital Regions and the general radiology services requirements of Our Lady's Hospital, Navan and Louth County Hospital.

We require a fellowship trained radiologist with subspecialist training in abdominal imaging and MRI. This post will also have a general radiology component, necessary to support radiology on call and to provide cover for the additional radiology services generated as a result of the planned opening of two additional theatres, the appointment of additional medical specialty consultants and the expansion of the emergency department, ASAU and wards. Applicants must be experienced in performing basic interventional procedures - biopsies, drainages, nephrostomies and PICC line insertion.

The general radiology component would be delivered between Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Our Lady's Hospital Navan and Louth County Hospital. The successful candidate would participate in MDT meeting.

Registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland in the specialty of radiology.Entry to competition / recruitment process and subsequent appointment

No candidate will be appointed as a Medical Consultant unless (s)he is registered as a Specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland.

The successful interviewee must be registered as a Specialist in the relevant specialty on the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland before taking up appointment. The candidate will be allowed a max of 180 calendar days from date of interview to secure this registration and produce evidence of special interest training where relevant.

Should the successful candidate not be registered as a Specialist at that time, the post may be offered to the next suitable candidate (or, in the case of HSE posts, publicjobs may choose not to recommend that candidate to the employer). Should no suitable candidate exist, a further recruitment process may be initiated.

Please note that appointment to and continuation in posts that require statutory registration is dependent upon the post holder maintaining annual registration in the relevant division of the register maintained by The Medical Council of Ireland.
