Job Purpose

The Gatehouse Operative is the first point of contact for visitors, contractors, and employees, ensuring the safe and secure operation of the facility. This role combines security, access control, and customer service, playing a key part in maintaining a safe, organised, and welcoming environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Access Control & Security

• Operate gate access control equipment to monitor entry and exit
• Verify identification of all visitors, contractors, and delivery personnel
• Enforce company security policies and procedures at all times

Visitor & Vehicle Management

• Record and maintain accurate logs of all visitors, vehicles, and deliveries
• Monitor and control the flow of traffic into and out of the site
• Respond to emergencies or security incidents in a timely and professional manner

Customer Service & Communication

• Provide excellent customer service to all visitors, employees, and contractors
• Communicate effectively with operational and security staff
• Assist with general enquiries and provide guidance to visitors

Teamwork & Compliance

• Work collaboratively with the Operations Manager and site teams
• Ensure compliance with health and safety policies and site regulations
• Support other operational duties as required

Knowledge, skills and experience required

Essential

• Reliable, punctual, and attentive to detail
• Good communication skills and a professional demeanor
• Ability to work independently and follow procedures accurately
• Comfortable responding to emergencies and handling challenging situations

Desirable

• Previous experience in a gatehouse, security, or customer-facing role
• Knowledge of access control systems or security protocols
