Job Description Turn Bioprocess Science Into Better Vaccine Manufacturing Process Scientist Imagine being the person helping to solve complex bioprocess challenges, optimise manufacturing processes, and support the development and production of vaccines that can make a real difference to patients around the world. Every experiment you design, every process you investigate, and every improvement you identify can contribute to making biological manufacturing more efficient, consistent, robust, and reliable. This is an opportunity to join a highly technical Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) laboratory environment, supporting vaccine drug substance manufacturing through hands-on upstream and downstream process studies. You'll work across laboratory-scale experiments, process development, manufacturing support, validation activities, and continuous improvement projects. This is not a role focused on simply following established laboratory procedures. We're looking for someone who enjoys understanding how biological processes work, investigating challenges, interpreting experimental data, and using scientific thinking to identify practical improvements. What you'll achieve (and why it matters) Bring your bioprocessing expertise into a technically driven environment where scientific curiosity, problem-solving, and process improvement are highly valued. Lead and support upstream and downstream process studies at small scale within an MSAT laboratory environment. Apply your experience in cell culture, seed train setup, and bioreactor operation to support process development activities. Support downstream processing activities including TFF, clarification, filtration, and drug substance dilution. Develop and apply your understanding of upstream and downstream bioprocessing and scale-down models. Support manufacturing activities during engineering, validation, and clinical batches. Contribute to satellite runs designed to support efficient and consistent vaccine manufacturing processes. Investigate process challenges, support troubleshooting activities, and contribute to critical deviation investigations. Apply risk analysis and scientific problem-solving to improve process understanding and manufacturing performance. Support process validation and technical transfer activities, helping move processes successfully through different stages of development and manufacturing. Prepare high-quality technical reports and communicate experimental results and data to technical and scientific teams. Maintain accurate records and documentation of experiments, investigations, and process activities. Support the preparation and revision of SOPs, protocols, MBRs, technical memos, and other technical documentation. Contribute to equipment qualification activities, including Commissioning & Qualification and IOQ activities. Work closely with MSAT and technical manufacturing teams to provide scientific and technical support to drug substance manufacturing. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and contribute to projects that enhance manufacturing capability, compliance, and process performance. Collaborate with colleagues across scientific, technical, and manufacturing functions to solve complex challenges and deliver project objectives. Support a culture of high-quality documentation, scientific rigour, compliance, and continuous improvement. Your edge (desired, not required) Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or another relevant scientific or engineering discipline. 2-3+ years of industrial experience within biological, biopharmaceutical, vaccine, clinical, or commercial manufacturing. Hands-on experience in cell culture process development and bioreactor operation. Experience in upstream and/or downstream process development. Knowledge of bioprocess development, biopharmaceutical production, or biological process validation. Experience with downstream processing techniques such as TFF, clarification, filtration, and dilution would be highly advantageous. Experience working with upstream and downstream scale-down models. Knowledge of vaccine or biological drug substance manufacturing processes. Experience working within a GMP or cGMP-regulated pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical environment. Experience supporting biological production process validation. Knowledge of critical quality attributes, process specifications, and the principles behind biological manufacturing processes. Experience troubleshooting manufacturing processes and investigating critical deviations. Experience conducting risk assessments and applying structured problem-solving approaches. Exposure to technical transfer and process validation activities. Experience preparing or revising SOPs, protocols, MBRs, technical reports, or other controlled technical documentation. Experience supporting equipment qualification, Commissioning & Qualification, or IOQ activities. Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving abilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present scientific and technical information clearly. Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage experimental activities and multiple project requirements. A collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary scientific, technical, and manufacturing teams. Flexibility to support occasional weekend work when required. Why this role matters You'll sit at the intersection of scientific experimentation, process development, and manufacturing, helping to improve the processes behind the production of critical vaccines. This is an excellent opportunity for a Process Scientist, MSAT Scientist, Bioprocess Scientist, Process Development Scientist, Manufacturing Scientist, or Bioprocess Engineer looking to make a tangible impact in a highly technical environment. The next step for you If this opportunity is of interest, please send your CV to [email protected] or reach out to discuss the role further. All applications are treated in the strictest confidence.
