  • Senior Radiographer / Senior Mammographer: - Bon Secours Hospital Cork

    Due to expansion of services, Bon Secours Hospital Cork are seeking a Senior Radiographer / Senior Mammographer to join highly regarded Diagnostic Imaging Department on a permanent basis. This role offers an excellent opportunity to be part of a progressive, patient-centred imaging service within a leading private hospital.

    About the Role

    Duties and responsibilities:

    Under the general direction and control of the Radiographic Services Manager, the Senior Radiographer / Senior Mammographer will be responsible for assisting in the provision of an efficient, effective and caring Radiography and Imaging service in the department and in line with the Hospital's Mission Statement. The duties and responsibilities include the following:
  • To organise / supervise / perform radiographic / mammography / imaging / interventional procedures according to any protocols provided and to supervise staff as appropriate
  • To assist in the daily operational management of the services
  • To maintain high standards of patient care and technique
  • To keep abreast of and embrace where appropriate current techniques and developments
  • Clinical Duties
  • To assist in the education and training of staff as appropriate and encourage professional development
  • To adhere to all Health and Safety guidelines and any Hospital and Department protocols
  • To ensure that Radiation Protection rules are applied at all times and to be familiar with and comply with National Ionising Radiation Legislation.
  • To ensure that the principles of radiation protection ALARA are adhered to and to obey local rules in relation to same
  • To participate in the current out of hours emergency services rosters as required.
  • To be observant in relation to equipment faults and errors and report all defects or occurrences to the Superintendent Radiographer
  • To participate in all Quality Assurance Programmes as required
  • To attend relevant post-graduate courses
  • To adhere to the professional guidelines laid down by the Irish Institute of Radiographers
  • To perform any other duties in the Diagnostic Imaging Department deemed appropriate to the grade by the Radiographic Service Manager
  • The post holder may be required from time to time to deputise for a Clinical Specialist appropriate to the grade by the Radiographic Service Manager
  • To undertake responsibility on a day to day basis for the Mammography service and the effective utilisation of all resources allocated.
  • To be accountable for the quality of service provided including customer service and technical aspects.
  • To contribute to the development and implementation of operational policies, protocols and guidelines.
  • To maintain up to date knowledge of clinical, technical and radiographic developments in the field of Breast Imaging and to promote awareness of same to other members of staff.
  • Manage the use of consumables efficiently.
  • Essential Criteria:
  • BSc in Radiography or the Diploma of the College of Radiographers or a qualification that is equivalent to the above and this qualification should be validated by CORU
  • Post graduate qualification in the Area
  • Member of CORU
  • At least 3 years post graduate experience in the area
  • Good leadership skills
  • Ability to train and guide junior
  • staff in the relevant modalities
  • Good time management skills
  • Good orientation skills
  • Be flexible to rotate through the modalities
