Radiographer Assistant - Bon Secours Hospital Cork

Due to expansion of services, Bon Secours Hospital Cork are seeking a Radiographer Assistant to join highly regarded Diagnostic Imaging Department on a permanent basis. This role offers an excellent opportunity to be part of a progressive, patient-centred imaging service within a leading private hospital.

About the Role

Duties and responsibilities:

Under the general direction and control of the Radiographic Services Manager, the Radiography Assistant will be responsible for the following:

Clinical Duties

Will assist the Radiographers and other staff, primarily in Ultrasound, Specialist Breast Care Centre and Computed Tomography areas as requested. This includes preparation of lists, delivering contrast to wards and preparation for scans and IT work for reception duties and insurance claim forms for patients and preparing patients for imaging.

  • Manage Radiology Information System list and patient flows as required.
  • Follow instructions, carry out tasks and adhere to safety procedures, as directed by the Radiographer, in line with the department and hospital policies.
  • Liaise with the Radiographer, regarding patient's attendance in the department.
  • To observe patients and report any concerns back to the Radiographer.
  • Attend other departments for training / observation on initial appointment and at intervals as directed by the Radiographic Services Manager.
  • Attend and participate in meetings and in-service training when recommended.
  • Assist with moving and handling of patients.
  • Assist patients with dressing /undressing if required.
  • Transfer and accompany or direct patients to and from the department if required.
  • Prepare the patients and environment for examinations as directed by the Radiographer.
  • Decontamination of ultrasound probes.


General Duties
  • To assist in maintaining order, cleanliness and tidiness of procedure rooms and changing cubicles in accordance with hospital infection control and department guidelines.
  • Cleaning of radiology equipment as required.
  • Maintain procedure rooms in a clean and safe condition.
  • To assist in managing department stock, ordering and receiving supplies, monitoring equipment and reporting faulty equipment as outlined by local departmental policies.
  • Be familiar with Fire and Health & Safety regulations and ensure safety of self and others during the course of duty.
  • To deal with emergency situations as appropriate.
  • To comply with department protocols regarding documentation and recording statistical data.
  • To assist where necessary certain administrative tasks as designated by the Radiographer, including answering telephone and recording messages, filing etc.
  • To perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Radiographic Services Manager.
