Appointment will be made on Grade 3 (31,934 -49,416 LSI ) at a point in line with Government pay policy.

Hours of work:

Full-Time 35 hours per week

Position Summary:

Hospital In-Patient Enquiry Scheme (HIPE)

HIPE is a health information system designed to collect demographic, clinical and administrative information on discharges and deaths from acute hospitals nationally.

HIPE is the only source of morbidity statistics available nationally for acute hospital services in Ireland. All acute public hospitals participate in HIPE reporting on over 1.5 million records annually.

The position holder will be responsible to ensure that the Clinical Coders have the healthcare records necessary to perform the collection of data as above. (See below for Principal Duties & Responsibilities)

Responsibilities

Maintaining and monitoring chart flow within the HIPE Department. (Coding offices, chart room and any other area that Medical health Care Record is stored on Behalf of HIPE)

Tracking and returning charts to Medical Records and all areas as necessary.

Missing charts to be retrieved for all coders on an ongoing/daily basis, based on lists generated by coders. This will involve locating/sourcing charts from ALL areas of the hospital.

Collecting charts from Day Onc, CKB, DFU ,CDW, Day ward and general wards on a daily basis

Helping in the overall smooth running of a busy office.

Fulfilling ALL hatch obligations

Other General offices as directed by Clinical Coding Manager

Qualifications

SELECTION CRITERIA

Selection criteria outline the qualification, skills, knowledge and/ or experience that the successful candidate would need to demonstrate for successful discharge of the responsibilities for the post. Applications will be assessed on the basis of how well candidates satisfy these criteria.

Mandatory:

Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc

(a) Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:(i) Obtained at least grade D (or pass) in Higher or Ordinary Level in five subjects from the approved list of subjects in the Department of Educationestablished Leaving Certificate Examination or Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme or Leaving Certificate Applied.

Or

(ii) Passed an examination of at least equivalent standard.

Or

(iii) Satisfactory relevant experience which encompasses demonstrableequivalent skills.

And

(b) Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability, including a high standard of suitability and administrative ability), for the properdischarge of the office.

Age

Age restriction shall only apply to a candidate where s/he is not classified as a new entrant (within the meaning of the Public Service Superannuation(Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2004). A candidate who is not classified as a new entrant must be under 65 years of age on the first day of the month in which the latest date for receiving completed application forms for the office occurs.

Health

Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular andefficient service.

Character

Candidates for and any person holding the office must be of good character.

Desirable

  • Qualifications: Leaving certificate or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of IPMS Hospital system.
  • Good time management skills essential
  • Excellent communicator.
  • Solid IT skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to work on own initiative and within a team.
