Bon Secours Health System has a rich history in Limerick, beginning with the acquisition of Barringtons Hospital on George's Quay in 2017. While the site has served the community well, its limitations led to our vision for a new, state-of-the-art facility to better serve the growing healthcare needs of the region.
In 2021, we took the next step towards this vision by breaking ground on the new Bon Secours Hospital Limerick in Towlerton, Ballysimon, with an investment of €190 million. This new hospital is now open and provides advanced medical and surgical care in a modern, sustainable setting.

Staff Nurse- Ophthalmology Theatre

Full-time (37.5 hours per week) | Specified Purpose

The Purpose of This Role:

The Registered General Nurse in Theatre will be responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centred care to individuals within their designated area(s). The Registered General Nurse will work within a multidisciplinary team to provide exceptional care in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while adhering to best practice guidelines and hospital protocols.

The Registered General Nurse will work according to the Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics (NMBI 2021) as amended or updated and relevant professional guidelines.

Candidate Criteria:

Qualifications:

• Be registered, or be eligible for registration, in the General Nurse Division of the Register of Nurses kept by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland [NMBI]

Key Responsibilities:

• Evaluate operating room patients and plans, implement and document clinical nursing care. Ensure all patient documentation is complete in line with hospital policy.
• Promote patient focused approach to care in collaboration with the health care team.
• Maintain a safe clinical environment.
• Be an effective member of the surgical team either as a scrub, circulating or anaesthetic practitioner, demonstrating effective leadership qualities and communication skills.
• Demonstrating safe and effective infection control practices.
• Ensure all checking processes are carried out correctly and thoroughly and are documented, as per hospital policy.
• Work with the Surgeons to ensure their specific surgical requirements are met, to include set up of the theatre, patient positioning, instrumentation and equipment.
• Be familiar with the specific care requirements for the clinical speciality.
• Be familiar with and demonstrate understanding of how to use equipment safely and effectively. Report any malfunctions in a timely manner.
• Assist with ordering of supplies as required and ensure the appropriate and efficient use of supplies is made.
• Function efficiently and effectively in an emergency situation.

• Highlight and discuss any concerns with the Consultant/Anaesthetist/Senior Nursing management as appropriate.
• Ensure patient confidentiality at all times.

• Communicate effectively with other relevant departments as appropriate.
• Assist in establishing and monitoring care protocols/pathways.

Essential Requirements:

• R.G.N Registration
• At least 1 - 2 year's post registration experience in acute care nursing.
• Previous nursing experience for specialised areas is required. Please clearly indicate your experience on your CV.
• Evidence of ongoing continuous professional development.
• Broad based knowledge of current nursing research issues pertinent to practice.
• Experience of clinical audit and standard setting.
