Key Responsibilities
Leadership & People Management:
- Lead, mentor, and develop substation managers, engineers, site managers, and supervisors
- Build high-performing multidisciplinary teams across construction and pre-commissioning activities
- Set clear objectives, manage performance, and support succession planning
- Promote a strong safety-first culture
Project & Operational Delivery:
- Provide oversight of HV substation projects (38kV-220kV) from installation through to pre-commissioning handover
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on programme, and within budget
- Oversee planning, resourcing, and reporting
- Support tendering and bid reviews
Safety, Quality & Compliance:
- Act as a senior duty holder for HSEQ
- Ensure compliance with Irish standards (ESB Networks, EirGrid, HSA)
- Review RAMS and pre-commissioning procedures
- Lead incident investigations
Technical Governance:
- Provide technical leadership on installation and pre-commissioning activities
- Support technical reviews and value engineering
- Oversee QA, inspections, testing, and handover
Stakeholder & Client Management:
- Act as a senior client contact
- Build relationships with stakeholders
- Represent the business at meetings and audits
About the role
The Senior Substation Manager is responsible for the strategic leadership, delivery, and oversight of high-voltage (HV) substation installation and pre-commissioning activities across Ireland. The role encompasses project delivery, people management, safety leadership, technical governance, and stakeholder engagement, ensuring all substation activities are delivered safely, compliantly, on time, and to the highest quality standards.
This is a senior leadership role within the substation function, with accountability for multiple projects and teams across construction and pre-commissioning phases.

Qualifications and Skills
Must Haves:
- - 10+ years HV substation construction/installation experience
- Leadership of large technical teams
- Background in energy infrastructure
Technical Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of HV substations
- Experience in construction, testing, and pre-commissioning
- Knowledge of Irish standards and grid codes
Qualifications:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or related
- Chartered Engineer (desirable)
- Relevant HV certifications
