Job Type: Full - Time, Permanent (Subject to 6 - month probationary period)

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Academic Affairs Associate and Law Lecturer plays a central role in supporting the effective administration, coordination and quality assurance of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes within the Faculty of Law.

The post-holder will contribute significantly to the operational management of programmes and ensuring that academic integrity is at the forefront of learner training and assessment. The role also includes teaching and assessment responsibilities, and participation in activities that enhance the reputation and strategic objectives of the Faculty and the College.

KEY ROLE SUMMARY

The Academic Affairs Associate and Law Lecturer will:
  1. Support the operational and academic administration of undergraduate and postgraduate law programmes.
  2. Lecture on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes as assigned.

iii. Coordinate programme administration activities and support the efficient delivery of programmes.
  1. Coordinate and support academic misconduct procedures and investigations.
  2. Assist in the preparation and administration of:

Ä Examination Boards;

Ä Validation and revalidation events.
  1. Contribute to academic quality assurance and enhancement initiatives.

vii. Support learner engagement activities and programme-related events.

viii. Contribute to the advancement and reputation of the Faculty and College.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Assessment and Examination Administration

The Academic Affairs Associate and Law Lecturer shall:
  1. Assist with:

Ä Pre-Examination Boards;

Ä Examination Boards;

Ä Results processing and verification (including internal moderation of grades).
  1. Support the preparation and checking of component marks and examination documentation.

iii. Support the management of repeat examinations and reassessment activities.
  1. Assist in maintaining the integrity of examination processes.
  2. Support the implementation of College policies relating to assessment and examinations.
  3. Teaching and Learning

The Academic Affairs Associate and Law Lecturer shall:
  1. Lecture on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes as assigned.
  2. Deliver teaching on daytime, evening and blended learning programmes.

iii. Develop module materials and learning resources.
  1. Maintain Moodle module pages and upload learning materials in a timely manner.
  2. Prepare module handbooks and assessment briefs.
  3. Provide high-quality teaching, guidance and support to learners.

vii. Participate in curriculum review and programme development activities.

viii. Supervise dissertations and research projects where appropriate.
  1. Provide academic advice and support to learners.
  2. Participate in learner engagement and retention initiatives.


  1. Academic Affairs

The Academic Affairs Associate and Law Lecturer shall:
  1. Coordinate and support the day-to-day academic administration of Faculty programmes.
  2. Support module allocation and semester planning.

iii. Prepare and maintain programme documentation and records.
  1. Assist with learner registration and progression activities as required.
  2. Support learner induction and orientation activities.
  3. Assist with Open Days, Information Evenings and recruitment activities.

vii. Maintain accurate and up-to-date programme information and records.

viii. Support faculty operational planning and implementation of strategic initiatives.

  1. Academic Quality Assurance and Enhancement

The Academic Affairs Associate and Law Lecturer shall:
  1. Support the implementation and monitoring of the College's Quality Assurance procedures.
  2. Assist in the preparation of documentation for Validation and Revalidation Events;

iii. Support programme monitoring and continuous improvement initiatives.
  1. Assist in analysing learner feedback and preparing enhancement plans.
  2. Participate in quality enhancement initiatives across the Faculty and College.
  3. Assist with the development and review of policies and procedures.

vii. Ensure compliance with relevant legislative and regulatory requirements.

  1. Academic Integrity and Academic Misconduct

The Academic Affairs Associate and Law Lecturer shall:
  1. Support the administration of academic integrity procedures.
  2. Coordinate documentation relating to academic misconduct investigations.

iii. Arrange and support academic misconduct meetings and panels.
  1. Assist with maintaining records and outcomes arising from investigations.
  2. Support the implementation of academic integrity initiatives and learner education activities.
  3. Monitor trends and provide reports to Faculty management where appropriate.


  1. Assessment Responsibilities

The Academic Affairs Associate and Law Lecturer shall:
  1. Prepare assessments in accordance with approved programme documentation.
  2. Mark assignments and examinations within prescribed deadlines.

iii. Provide timely and constructive feedback to learners.
  1. Participate in internal moderation and standardisation exercises.
  2. Participate in examination boards and assessment review meetings.
  3. Maintain accurate assessment records.

vii. Ensure compliance with all assessment regulations and procedures.

  1. Research and Scholarly Activity

The Academic Affairs Associate and Law Lecturer shall:
  1. Engage in scholarly and professional activity appropriate to the role.
  2. Maintain professional knowledge and expertise in relevant legal disciplines.

iii. Contribute to the academic reputation of the Faculty and College.

  1. Learner Experience and Engagement

The Academic Affairs Associate and Law Lecturer shall:
  1. Support learner engagement initiatives.
  2. Participate in induction and orientation activities.

iii. Attend learner events and programme activities.
  1. Promote a positive, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  2. Respond to learner queries in a professional and timely manner.


  1. Compliance and Governance

The Academic Affairs Associate and Law Lecturer shall:
  1. Ensure compliance with:

Ä College regulations;

Ä Quality Assurance policies;

Ä Data Protection legislation;

Ä QQI requirements;

Ä Professional and regulatory obligations.
  1. Maintain confidentiality in relation to all College information.

iii. Ensure records are maintained accurately and securely.
  1. Keep abreast of legislative and regulatory developments relevant to higher education.

The Academic Affairs Associate and Law Lecturer shall:
  1. Comply with all College Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  2. Be familiar with emergency procedures and evacuation arrangements.

iii. Report any health and safety concerns promptly.
  1. Promote a safe environment for learners, staff and visitors.

Minimum Education / Experience Requirements:

Essential Criteria
  1. Honours Degree in Law.
  2. Postgraduate qualification (minimum Level 9).

iii. Experience of teaching at third-level education.
  1. Experience of academic administration and programme coordination.
  2. Knowledge of quality assurance processes within higher education.
  3. Knowledge of assessment and examination procedures.

vii. Excellent organisation, administrative, written and verbal communication skills.

viii. Strong IT and digital literacy skills.
  1. Experience using learning technologies and virtual learning environments.
  2. Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  3. Certificate in Teaching, Learning and Assessment or willingness to undertake same.


Desirable Criteria
  1. Practical legal experience.
  2. Experience of programme review and validation processes.

iii. Experience of academic misconduct investigations.
  1. Experience of quality assurance reporting and compliance.
  2. Experience of external examiner processes.
  3. PhD completed or currently being undertaken.

vii. Research publications and conference presentations.

viii. Experience of supervisory responsibilities.
