About the Service:

Extern is operating a Bail Supervision Scheme (BSS) for young people aged 12-18 involved with The Children's Court in Dublin and The District Courts in Bray, Cork, Drogheda, Limerick, Naas and Trim. The Bail Supervision Scheme provides individually tailored support to young people at risk of reception in to custody or an escalation of their offending/anti-social behaviours and their families. The BSS delivers an evidence based model called Multisystemic Therapy (MST) to help these young people and their families increase compliance with Court ordered bail conditions and reduce the risk of them being remanded in detention.

The Extern Family Worker is fully trained as an MST Therapist in conjunction with MST Services in order to provide an intensive, flexible, goal-oriented and time limited intervention. MST Therapists are responsible for forming professional relationships with parents and families/carers in order to assist young people to live more successfully within their local communities by helping them find solutions to their problems. You will be responsible for developing interventions with young people, their parents/ carers, families and friends, as well as working closely with other organisations including the Gardaí, YPP, TUSLA, Court Services and Oberstown Children Detention Campus. The Bail Supervision Scheme is based in Smithfield, Dublin and Cork City and is funded by DOJ.
