Ophthalmic Technician

The Purpose of This Role:
The Ophthalmic Technician will work in a multi-disciplinary team which includes patient administration, supporting consultant ophthalmologists and other relevant nursing staff and stakeholders to provide an integrated service in a growing ophthalmology department.
The Ophthalmology Technician will have responsibility for the performance of Perform sub speciality testing and will assist with smooth running of clinics and relevant department activities.

Ophthalmic Technician

Qualifications:
- Good level of the anatomy and physiology of the eye and theorietical ophthamology education demonstrating literacy skills and numeracy skills.
- Ability to undertake in-house training in post
- Technologically proficient with the suse of diagnostic scanning
- Evidence of continuous professional development
- Relevant technical qualification or part qualification in relevant degree in Ophthalmic care (e.g. Orthopist / Optometrist)
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with smooth running of the clinics in been proactive and taking initiative.
- Perform preliminary exams and ophthalmic diagnostic testing within their competency domains.
- Completion of administration duties and tasks to support the Consultant and the department.
- Perform sub speciality testing such as diagnostic imaging and measurements, such as OCT, Humphrey Visual Fields analysis, biometry, autorefraction, pachymetry, colour photography, visual acuity and intraocular pressure tests.
- Preparation of patients undergoing YAG and SLT laser and caring for patients in pre & post -operative cataract clinics.
- Assist with the collection and preparation of audit data and data for clinical research.
- Preparation of examination and treatment rooms.
- Cleaning and maintaining instruments and equipment in line with infection control guidelines.
- Educate patients regarding pre- and post-operative instructions as directed by consultant.
- Assist with the maintenance of clinical examination equipment and clinical areas.
- Follow all safety procedures as per guidelines.
- Embrace continuous quality improvement and management of change as necessary.
- Achieve team goals while demonstrating organizational values and utilizing resources responsibly.
Essential Requirements:
- Knowledge of and experience using a range of ocular imaging equipment to include as diagnostic imaging and measurements, such as OCT, Humphrey Visual Fields analysis, biometry, autorefraction, and colour photography, vision and intraocular pressure tests.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to establish good working relationships with personnel at all levels.
- Committed to protecting patient privacy and confidentiality of personal information.
- Ability to treat all patients with kindness, dignity, and discretion in line with the Hospital's Mission.

- Roster will generally be over 5 days a week however a flexible approach to work patterns is required in line with service.
