Brief Service/Project Description
The purpose of this project is to implement and evaluate a Specialist Urology GP Service delivered in collaboration with the Mater Hospital Urology Department, providing timely access to urology care within a community setting in north Dublin.
The service targets patients with chronic, benign urological conditions currently on hospital outpatient waiting lists, as well as patients presenting with acute urological issues such as catheter-related complications.
This project will establish a pathway whereby suitable patients are triaged by hospital consultants and redirected to a Specialist Urology GP for assessment, treatment, discharge, or escalation where clinically required. The model aims to deliver safe, appropriate care closer to home while reducing demand on acute hospital services. Our initiative leads the way on the creation of a workable, integrated system across acute and community healthcare settings for patients with urological conditions.
