Irish Catholicism, Archives, and Transnational Church History

Dublin City University and the Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies at the University of Notre Dame, in partnership, invite applications for a jointly funded Postdoctoral Fellowship in modern Irish history, with a particular focus on the work and legacy of Cardinal Peter Cullen.

The Letters of Paul Cardinal Cullen

The project, originally funded by the Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences, aims to identify, transcribe, and publish, in full, the letters of Cardinal Paul Cullen (1803-1878). The Irish Manuscripts Commission will shortly publish the first three volumes written in Italian, both in translation and in the original, in volumes edited by Prof. Anne O'Connor of the University of Galway. The position is intended to bring the English language letters to completion. While many have already been transcribed, a significant number have not. The postholder will be required to locate, gather, and transcribe those letters that have not been completed, and assess the quality of those that have already been transcribed.

Salary Scale:

IUA Postdoctoral Researcher Salary Scale (Point 1 - Point 2): €47,273 - €47,879.

Appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and in line with current Government pay policy.
