Role Overview:

As Compliance Manager - Hong Kong, you will lead TransferMate's compliance function in Hong Kong, acting as the trusted advisor to the business while ensuring the highest standards of AML/CTF compliance and regulatory engagement.

Reporting directly to the Global Head of AML, you will take ownership of the Hong Kong compliance programme, support strategic growth across Greater China and APAC, and work in partnership with Product, Commercial, Operations, Legal and Banking partners to enable sustainable business growth.

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring excellent judgement, strong execution, commercial awareness and the confidence to challenge where necessary. The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced fintech environment, balancing regulatory obligations with practical business solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Regulatory Leadership

  • Act as the senior compliance representative for Hong Kong.

  • Maintain the MSO licence and lead all interactions with Hong Kong Customs & Excise Department (CED), JFIU and other regulatory authorities.

  • Lead regulatory inspections, audits and licence renewals.

  • Build trusted relationships with regulators and banking partners.

  • Ensure all regulatory reporting is accurate and submitted within required deadlines.

AML/CTF Programme Ownership

  • Own the Hong Kong AML/CTF framework and ensure alignment with global standards.

  • Conduct enterprise AML risk assessments.

  • Oversee onboarding, KYC, CDD, EDD, transaction monitoring and sanctions controls.

  • Act as MLRO where designated.

  • Drive continuous improvements in financial crime controls through automation and AI.

Business Partnership

  • Partner with Commercial, Product and Operations to support business growth while maintaining an appropriate risk appetite.

  • Provide pragmatic, risk-based advice rather than simply identifying problems.

  • Support new product launches, payment corridors and strategic banking relationships.

  • Participate in governance forums and represent Compliance in senior business discussions.

Leadership & Delivery

  • Take ownership of projects from initiation through implementation.

  • Deliver against agreed objectives with minimal supervision.

  • Escalate risks early together with practical recommendations.

  • Manage competing priorities effectively and consistently meet deadlines.

  • Contribute positively to the wider Global AML leadership team.

Communication

  • Communicate confidently with regulators, banks, payment partners and senior stakeholders.

  • Translate complex regulatory requirements into practical business guidance.

  • Produce clear written policies, committee papers and regulatory submissions.

  • Deliver engaging compliance training to regional teams.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for someone who combines technical AML expertise with strong commercial judgement.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • 10+ years' experience within financial services, fintech or payments.

  • Significant experience operating within the Hong Kong AML regulatory framework.

  • Experience working directly with regulators and banking partners.

  • Strong understanding of MSO licensing obligations.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders.

  • Proven record of delivering projects independently.

  • Ability to work at pace and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.

  • Comfortable working in a rapidly changing fintech environment.

  • Strong commercial awareness and ability to balance regulatory obligations with business objectives.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Fluency in English and Mandarin (spoken and written). Cantonese highly desirable.

  • CAMS, ICA Diploma or equivalent professional qualification.
