Guest Engagement: Software Engineer II, Android

Are you interested in using the latest technology to help our customers build amazing relationships with their guests? Does the idea of developing products that help people cherish their best moments in life sound exciting to you? As an engineer on the Guest Engagement team, your mission will be creating the next generation of engagement experiences that help bring new guests into the restaurants, and turn them into regulars. You will work closely with UX, PM and QA, and have access to state of the art AI tools, to deliver some real impact on real people.
A day in the life (Responsibilities)
- Design, build and maintain high performing, flexible, and scalable Android solutions running on Toast POS hardware in thousands of restaurants
- Ship features end-to-end, from design through rollout, monitoring for success and iterating based on real-world use
- Build great UX using best practices of modern Android development
- Be an awesome teammate who's all in on collaboration and collective success
- Create products and features that help restaurants deliver a best-in-class guest experience
- Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and Engineering stakeholders, and actively participate in Agile ceremonies
- Partner with team members and other engineers across the company to raise the bar for the Android experience at Toast
What you'll need to thrive (Requirements)
- Proficient in Kotlin and/or Java for Android development, with hands-on experience shipping production Android apps
- Solid grasp of modern Android tooling and frameworks
- Excited about AI-assisted development and LLM-based agents (Claude Code or similar), and interested in pioneering new workflows with the team
- Comfortable reading and integrating with backend services (REST/GraphQL) and curious to work across the stack when needed
- Comfortable with ambiguity, agile delivery, and shipping usable software incrementally
- Passionate about making users happy and seeing people use your product in the wild
- Strong on software development fundamentals - code quality, unit tests, clean code - and open to evolving your workflow with AI tooling

- Android app built in Java & Kotlin running in the restaurant
- A core of Java & Kotlin based backend services
- Claude Code and similar AI agentic development tools as part of daily engineering
- PostgreSQL and DynamoDB as core persistence
- REST and GraphQL APIs, plus many more technologies that help us build a top-class platform
**This is a hybrid role requiring in-office collaboration two days per week in our Dublin office.**
