The Purpose of this role: The Extension Service is a Youth Drop-In Centre and is often the first point of contact homeless young people make when accessing homeless services. We aim to provide a stable place for young people and provide them with basic essentials like food, shower and laundry and to be a ‘place of change’ while also engaging young people to create a pathway out of homelessness as quickly as possible.
What you will do:
Work within the values, objectives, policies and procedures of Focus Ireland, ensuring compliance with Health Safety standards at all times.
Provide a safe, welcoming and supportive environment for young people aged 16–26 who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, or living out of home.
Build positive, trusting relationships with young people, particularly those living on the streets, in emergency accommodation or experiencing housing instability.
Support young people to identify and achieve personal goals that promote stability, independence and wellbeing.
Assist young people with housing needs, welfare rights, entitlements and accessing appropriate move-on accommodation.
Deliver engaging one-to-one and group-based support sessions that are both educational and enjoyable.
Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality support services.
Provide advice, information and guidance to young people as a preventative measure or in response to homelessness.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date case files, daily logs, assessments and database records in line with organisational requirements.
Develop and sustain effective partnerships with external agencies and service providers to coordinate supports for young people.
Assist with the day-to-day operational and practical tasks required for the effective running of the service.
Attend team meetings, supervision sessions, training programmes and relevant external meetings as required.
Work a flexible rota, including evenings and weekends, and undertake additional duties as reasonably assigned to support the aims and objectives of the service.
What you will need:
A Third Level qualification at degree level in the area of social care i.e. youth work, social studies, addiction, psychology, etc and/or be a CORU registered Social Care Worker
Direct experience in the social care field working with disadvantaged young people.
A strong knowledge of issues affecting young people out-of-home and their impact on young people and their physical, emotional and psychological development.
Relevant experience of dealing with high risk and challenging behaviour.
Relevant experience of working in a team which shares a common goal.
Computer literacy.
Knowledge of the National Quality Standards Framework for Youth Work 2011 (Desirable).
An awareness of child protection issues and ways of responding appropriately to any concerns (Desirable).
