Purpose of Position:

The Career Development and Employability Team is an impact-driven, proactive service within National College of Ireland focused on developing student employability, strengthening graduate outcomes and supporting students to transition successfully into the workplace.

This role will manage a defined student caseload while also acting as the team lead for the development of Work Integrated Learning initiatives. The postholder will support students through careers guidance, employability education, placement and internship preparation, employer engagement, alumni engagement and graduate recruitment activity.

About the role:

This is a varied and high-impact role at the centre of NCI's employability agenda. The successful candidate will help students make confident career decisions, prepare for the graduate labour market and access meaningful opportunities to connect their learning with professional experience.

You will design and deliver engaging career education and employability initiatives across a broad range of topics, including career planning, professional identity, AI in the job search, networking, applications, interviews, assessment centres and graduate recruitment trends. You will also help review and evolve our skills sessions and resources so that they remain practical, current and responsive to changes in industry, recruitment practice and student need.

Alongside this, you will provide professional one-to-one and small group careers guidance to students and recent graduates from diverse backgrounds. You will support them to explore options, build confidence, understand the Irish labour market, prepare for recruitment processes and take practical steps towards employment, placement, internship or further study.

A key focus of the role will be Work Integrated Learning. You will help develop opportunities that bring students closer to the workplace, including placements, internships, employer projects, industry challenges, alumni engagement and other work-related learning activities. Working with academic colleagues, employers, alumni and internal stakeholders, you will support initiatives that help students connect academic learning with professional practice and strengthen their readiness for the workplace.

This role offers the opportunity to shape provision, build employer and alumni relationships, develop innovative careers education and contribute directly to student experience, employability and graduate outcomes.

Core Requirements:

* Graduate with at least 3 years' experience within careers advisory work or a proven track record within agency recruitment.

* Relevant postgraduate qualification in Guidance, Counselling, Careers /Career Coaching or a commitment to securing same once in role.

Competencies:

* Student-centred careers guidance and employability practice: Ability to provide professional, practical careers guidance to a diverse student body, supporting students and recent graduates with career planning, employability, job search strategy, applications, interviews, assessment centres and graduate recruitment.

* Work Integrated Learning: Understanding of Work Integrated Learning and the ability to support placements, internships, employer projects, industry challenges and other work-related learning opportunities that connect academic learning with professional experience.

* Employer, alumni and stakeholder engagement: Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with employers, alumni, academic colleagues, industry bodies and professional partners and to translate these relationships into meaningful opportunities for students.

* Teaching, facilitation and communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to design and deliver engaging workshops, webinars, presentations, resources and career education sessions for both small and large groups.

* Planning, organisation and delivery: Strong organisational, time-management and workload-planning skills, with the ability to manage a significant student caseload alongside projects, events, employer engagement and reporting requirements.

* Data, digital capability and service improvement: Ability to use data, CRM systems, careers platforms, online learning tools, social media and impact measures to report on activity, improve service delivery and develop scalable, technology-enabled careers education and employability initiatives

Salary: Specialist/Senior Administrator €37,271 €54,915

Annual Leave: 24 days per annum

Contract: Permanent

Shortlisting

HR draft up the shortlisting documents and provide the initial screening to determine if a person meets the essential criteria of the competition. A shortlisting panel is generally made up of two senior grade staff members from the relevant department for which the role is being recruited.

Sharing of your data

Where you have been successfully shortlisted for a post, each interview panel member will be furnished with a copy of the relevant information of those who will be attending interview in order that they can review applications in advance of the interview process. All such information will be returned to NCI and shredded following the competition process. Some of the interview panel will be external interviewers, who are not employees of NCI but are engaged for the purpose and are strictly subject to the rules and policies of the College.

Access
