Job Title: Senior Site Engineer

Reports To: Project Manager

Job Summary

The Senior Site Engineer is responsible for managing on-site operations, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to high-quality and safety standards. Working closely with Project Manager, the Site Engineer will translate designs into actionable tasks, ensuring progress aligns with specifications. They will collaborate with subcontractors, tradespeople, and site teams to coordinate activities, resolve challenges, and maintain workflow efficiency. As a key point of contact, the Site Engineer will liaise with clients, consultants, and regulatory authorities to address concerns, provide updates, and ensure compliance with regulations. The role requires a proactive approach, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to delivering excellent results.

Key Activities
  • Oversee day-to-day site activities, ensuring all work aligns with project plans, schedules, and specifications.
  • Monitor project progress, prepare detailed updates for the project manager, and maintain accurate records of site activities in the daily site diary.
  • Coordinate and supervise subcontractors and tradespeople, ensuring efficient workflows and quality output.
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure construction adheres to technical drawings, quality standards, and project specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and welfare management systems by conducting site inductions, toolbox talks, and risk assessments.
  • Set out site works using robotic total stations, GPS, and other surveying tools, ensuring accurate measurements and layouts.
  • Manage plant, labour, and materials, including monitoring day-work activities and liaising with suppliers for timely orders.
  • Address technical issues on-site, interpret drawings, and communicate design changes or construction challenges to the team.
  • Act as the primary point of contact on-site for contractors, suppliers, inspectors, and regulatory authorities, ensuring clear and effective communication.
  • Report regularly to senior engineers or management on project progress, resource requirements, and any issues affecting timelines or budgets.
  • Collaborate with clients and consultants to resolve queries and maintain satisfaction while upholding the company's standards for quality and professionalism.


Competencies
  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies and building regulations.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills to meet deadlines effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities to manage teams and liaise with stakeholders.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to address on-site challenges promptly.
  • Proficiency in construction software tools (e.g., AutoCAD, MS Project).
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Team-oriented approach with the ability to build strong working relationships.
  • Adaptability to work in fast-paced, dynamic construction environments.


Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in planning and scheduling within the construction industry.
  • Experience working on medium to large-scale construction projects.
  • Familiarity with Irish construction regulations, standards, and best practices.
