ABOUT THE POSITION
Black Shamrock is looking for a talented mid-level Lighting Artist to be part of our creative team and work on ambitious AAA Playstation5, Xbox Series X/S and PC games. This is a full-time position which involves working in an international environment.
The ideal candidate will have a great aesthetic eye, strong technical understanding of PBL lighting systems in UE5, and a great sense of colour, mood and composition. Ability to communicate easily with other disciplines within the development team and to take creative direction from the Lead lighting artist and Direction is also required.
- 1+ years of experience in the gaming industry, and as a real-time lighting artist.
- Solid understanding lighting in real-time engines.
- Exceptional eye for colour and composition, and light and shadow.
- Strong foundational knowledge of light behaviour within Physically Based Lighting (PBL) pipelines.
- Ability to work with different disciplines to deliver lighting which follows the concept and art direction whilst also acknowledging and enhancing the game design.
- Excellent understanding of in-game lighting techniques, atmospheric effects and subsequent systems.
- Working knowledge of relevant 3D software (e.g. Maya, 3DS Max etc.)
- Superb problem-solving skills, both creative and technical.
- Superb interpersonal and communication skills.
- A strong portfolio focused on lighting work.
- Creating high quality Lighting that respect the project's technical and artistic constraints.
- Work closely with the Lead Lighting Artist to achieve the desired mood and tech requirements for the game.
- Solid understanding of Physically Based Lighting (PBL) principles and real-time light behaviour.
- Apply special effects relating to the lighting and atmosphere of the game, such as fog, volumetrics, flares and camera effects.
- Balancing and maintaining consistent lighting across the levels
- Work with the Level Designers and Environment Artists to enhance the narrative and gameplay.
- Optimise work and maintain balance between quality and performance.
- Reference design documents to develop an understanding of the environments, objectives, atmospheres, story and style of the project.
