Temporary Traffic Management Designer

As we continue to expand, we are now looking for a Temporary Traffic Management Designer to join our team in the Midlands and Southeast, with the role based at our Tullamore office.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior designers in preparing temporary traffic management drawings for works, including layouts for lane or road closures, pedestrian routes, diversions, and works access.
- Prepare and update traffic management drawings in AutoCAD using site information, local constraints, and project requirements.
- Apply standards from Chapter 8 of the Traffic Signs Manual and relevant temporary traffic management design guidance, under supervision.
- Support site surveys by recording road widths, footpath constraints, junctions, access, speed limits, signage, and other features needed for safe traffic management design.
- Revise drawings following internal reviews, local authority comments, site feedback, or changes to the planned works.
- Liaise with design, engineering, and site teams to understand constructability, safety requirements, phasing, and access arrangements on live utility and public work projects.
- Assist with preparing drawing packs, including drawing registers, revision notes, and supporting design information.
- Check drawings for clarity, accuracy, correct signage placement, pedestrian provision, and consistency with company standards before review.
- Develop practical knowledge of relevant traffic management standards, road safety requirements, and the design process for Temporary Works on public roads.
About You
- A qualification in civil engineering, construction, transport planning, AutoCAD, or a related discipline; or relevant practical experience in public roads, utilities, or a construction environment.
- Some experience or a strong interest in temporary traffic management, roadworks, civil engineering, utilities, or site-based projects.
- Excellent AutoCAD skills, with the ability to produce clear drawings, follow mark-ups, update layouts, and maintain accurate drawing revisions.
- An awareness of Chapter 8 of the Traffic Signs Manual, temporary traffic management principles, road safety, signage, pedestrian routes, and safe works access; or a willingness to develop this knowledge through training.
- Ability to read drawings, maps, road layouts, site photographs, and survey information, and translate this into practical design updates under supervision.
- A strong attention to detail, particularly when checking road widths, speed limits, junctions, access, signage locations, and pedestrian provisions.
- Good communication and organisational skills, with the confidence to work with designers, engineers, supervisors, site crews, and local authority stakeholders as part of a project team.
