Candidate/Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner(cANP/ANP) Crisis Liaison Psychiatry

Please note this role will be based primarily in the Emergency Department.

The Liaison Psychiatry Service at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital (MMUH) offers a service to both the Emergency Department and the wards of MMUH including:

• Assessment, diagnosis and initial treatment of mental illness and disorders. Specific delivery of a biopsychosocial assessment and management pathway to those presenting with suicide-related ideation and / or self-harm in line with the National Clinical Programme for Self-Harm Ireland (NCPSHI).
• Advice and assistance in the management of common mental health presentations Support and advice with signposting to appropriate addictions services for those presenting with substance misuse difficulties.
• Training and education in the recognition, understanding, treatment and management of common mental health problems within the general hospital.
• Support and guidance around the use of the Mental Health Act, 2001, and advice regarding complex capacity questions where a second opinion may be appropriate.
• It is the intention of the service to provide an interface between mental health services and the general hospital that is efficient, effective, easy to access and responsive, combining research with practice and making its expertise available to colleagues within the general hospital setting.
