Production Engineering Internship
Job Summary
The undergraduate placement role is based within the manufacturing facility and provides support across production and quality functions. The position involves participation in routine operational activities, alongside the planning and execution of continuous improvement initiatives focused on enhancing process efficiency, product quality, and overall operational performance. The role offers practical exposure to manufacturing systems, structured problem-solving methodologies, and cross-functional working within an industrial environment.
Responsibilities
• Support the development and optimisation of manufacturing processes through the application of continuous improvement methodologies aligned with the company's operating system.
• Contribute to the promotion and maintenance of a quality-focused culture within the manufacturing environment, ensuring the effective and timely introduction of new products and processes.
• Assist process and quality engineers in the execution of their day-to-day responsibilities within the manufacturing area.
• Undertake and deliver a defined project of strategic importance to the organisation, ensuring clear analysis, reporting, and outcomes.
• Analyse polymer material processes to support process understanding and performance improvement.
• Conduct material property testing, including but not limited to tensile testing, and interpret results to inform engineering decisions.
• Participate in the investigation and evaluation of new processing methods, equipment, and technologies.
• Collaborate effectively as part of a cross-functional engineering team, while receiving guidance and mentorship from experienced engineering personnel throughout the placement.
• Ensures compliance with Company policies (INC. Codes or Practices) and procedures.
• Maintains working areas to acceptable standards in terms of hygiene, cleanliness and general housekeeping.
• Adheres to all health and safety requirements including PPE, safety notices, evacuations, manual handling, chemical handling, working at heights, etc.
Candidates must:
• Be currently studying an engineering degree - Mechanical, Chemical - or appropriate related degree
• Be competent with Microsoft office software
• Have good communication skills
• Have an autonomous working mindset
• Have a problem-solving mindset
• Have a great team working attitude
Ideally candidates should have:
• Interest in manufacturing and plastics technologies
• Knowledge of manufacturing/ assembly processes such as; machining, assembly processes, testing, automation.
• Innovative mindset
• Knowledge of quality tools e.g., FMEA, SPC, Capability studies
