We are now seeking an experienced Radiographer Aide/ Chaperone to join our team in Affidea - Kilkenny. This is a 12 month fixed term contract
The Radiographer Aide/ Chaperone will provide a safe, respectful and efficient patient support within Ultrasound and MRI, ensuring smooth patient flow, excellent communication, and consistent adherence to clinic policies, infection prevention standards and patient safety goals.

We are now seeking an experienced Radiographer Aide/ Chaperone to join our team in Affidea - Kilkenny. This is a 12 month fixed term contract
The Radiographer Aide/ Chaperone will provide a safe, respectful and efficient patient support within Ultrasound and MRI, ensuring smooth patient flow, excellent communication, and consistent adherence to clinic policies, infection prevention standards and patient safety goals.
Patient-Facing Support & Chaperoning
- Greet patients, verify identity at every encounter, explain what to expect, and provide empathetic support throughout the visit.
- Act as a chaperone for intimate or sensitive examinations (e.g., pelvic/testicular US), safeguarding dignity, privacy and consent, and documenting chaperone presence.
- Assist with safe patient transfers and positioning using approved manual-handling techniques; remain with and monitor patients who require supervision; promptly escalate concerns to the supervising Radiographer/Sonographer.
- Support basic comfort needs and keep patients informed about delays and next steps.
Ultrasound (US) Support
- Prepare the US room, ensure consumables are stocked, assist patients on/off the couch, and chaperone during scans as requested.
- Handle routine cleaning between patients and perform high-level disinfection of probes following training, local SOPs and traceability requirements.
- Confirm patient arrival on RIS and help manage the day list and follow-ups as directed.
MRI Support
- Assist with patient changing, transfers, comfort and communication; restock consumables and support questionnaire pre-checks as directed.
- Assist the Radiographers in placing and removing coils, and patient positioning
Reception & Administration
- Provide reception/admin cover as needing to include scheduling/booking, and next-day list checks; handling queries and escalating clinical questions appropriately.
Quality, Safety & Infection Prevention
- Uphold Infection Prevention & Control, JCI hygiene standards and International Patient Safety Goals.
- Follow local MRI safety rules in the MRI department.
- Participate in audits, stock checks, equipment cleaning logs and room turnaround standards; report incidents/near misses promptly.
Stock, Housekeeping & Logistics
- Keep clinical and non-clinical areas tidy and ready; restock consumables; manage waste streams correctly (incl. sharps/clinical waste).
Professional Conduct & Development
- Maintain confidentiality and data protection; use PPE and follow manual/patient handling training.
- Support new staff orientation when asked; complete mandatory training and keep competencies up to date (e.g., BLS, manual handling, fire etc.)
Qualifications
Essential
- Leaving Certificate or equivalent
- Strong customer-facing skills; clear verbal and written English; basic IT literacy (MS Office)
Desirable
- QQI/FETAC Level 5 Health Care-related major award (e.g., Healthcare Support / Health Service Skills) or equivalent.
- Certificates in Manual Handling, Basic Life Support, Fire Safety; experience in a hospital/clinic or care environment.
- Prior exposure to Ultrasound/CT/MRI settings
