Clinical Specialist Radiology Quality Officer/RPO

Permanent Full-Time Post

35 hours per week

Working within the Radiology Department, the successful candidate will possess the following at a minimum:

Essential Requirements

  • BSc in Radiography or the Diploma of the College of Radiographers or a qualification that is equivalent to the above and this qualification should be validated by CORU.
  • Member of CORU
  • At least 8 years post graduate experience


Desirable Requirements

  • Be a member of the Irish Institute of Radiographers.


Duties and Responsibilities

Under the general direction and control of the Radiography Services Manager - The Radiology Quality Officer will be responsible for the following:

  • Co-ordinate the Department quality initiatives to promote the delivery of an effective diagnostic imaging service and enhance organisational effectiveness.
  • Oversee the policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines (PPPGs) of the Radiology Department. Work with the Clinical Specialist Radiographers to ensure that these are structured to meet the standards & requirements of the hospital and regulatory authorities, and that they are reviewed regularly for all modalities.
  • Work with the RSM and Clinical Specialists in preparing the documentation required for inspection by regulatory/accreditation bodies such as the Environmental Protection Agency, the Health Information & Quality Authority and Joint Commission International. Maintain a system of document control as required by such authorities.
  • Lead the RPU in the on-going activities required by the regulatory agencies governing radiation safety.
  • Assist the RSM with the Radiology Department Audit Programme, to ensure that the audits mandated by the programme schedule are performed. Provide guidance and assistance to staff on conducting audits in accordance with the program.
  • Co-ordinate incident reporting in the Department, to ensure that staff are familiar with the procedures, and assist as required. Ensure that incidents are reported and managed in accordance with the Hospital Incident Reporting Policy.
  • Liaise with staff of the Quality & Safety Department to ensure that the department's quality initiatives integrate with the hospital's quality programme.
