Occupational Therapist

Community-based Services

Embrace provides residential support services for adults and children with intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder and acquired brain injuries. We are currently looking for a Occupational Therapist to join our team on a part-time. Candidates must be self-driven, focused, highly motivated, creative and experienced with a passion for engaging with our residents on a daily basis.

Location: Based in Balbriggan, Co. Dublin, the successful candidate will also be expected to travel to our community homes as and when required

Type of Contract: Full time

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting comprehensive assessments of the individual's needs and make recommendations on supports required i.e. person, activity, equipment and environment
  • Using standardized and evidence-based assessments to form basis of clinical reasoning
  • Assessing, planning, implementing and reviewing treatments / intervention programmes for individuals using a person-centred approach
  • Assessing all situations with a focus on managing risk and contributing towards positive outcomes for the individual
  • Collaborating with the individual while working in partnership with frontline staff / families / all other relevant stakeholders to identify and achieve goals
  • Promoting continuity of care through the use of effective communication processes with frontline staff
  • Ensuring all records and technical data are up to date and available as required
  • Effectively managing own caseload
  • Forming strong positive working relationships across all areas of the service
  • Holding an appropriate and effective set of professional values and beliefs and behaving in line with professional standards as set down by Embrace and relevant professional bodies

Essential requirements

  • Hold a recognized qualification as an Occupational Therapist with a minimum of three years' experience
  • Hold current CORU-registration
  • Experience working with adults / children with intellectual disabilities, acquired brain injuries and autism
  • Ability to work in a self-directed manner using initiative and creativity
  • Ability to gather and assimilate information in order to complete assessments and develop care and support plans
  • Good observational and functional assessment skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload
  • Excellent communication, IT skills and time management skills
  • Full clean driving licence and willing to travel within service locations
  • Ongoing knowledge of relevant changes and best practice in the field of intellectual disability

Desirable requirements

  • Postural Management (Seating) and Sensory Integration experience
  • Knowledge of health services and trends nationally and internationally
  • Knowledge of designated centres related standards
  • Knowledge of designated centres legislations
