UCD Post-Doc Lvl 1, School of Medicine, Temp 12 months

University Vacancies Ireland
Dublin, Dublin, Ireland Temporary
Reference: 1512966712

Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Medicine.

Systems Biology Ireland (SBI, http://www.ucd.ie/sbi/) established in 2009, has successfully developed an integrated mathematical modelling and experimental research programme focusing on the design of new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to diseases, primarily cancer, based on a systems-level, mechanistic understanding of cellular signal transduction networks. To accomplish these goals, SBI uses mathematical and computational modelling approaches in combination with cutting-edge experimental technologies in proteomics, genomics, advanced microscopy and flow cytometry, as well as cell biology and molecular biology methods. SBI's expertise, particularly in the area of modelling in systems pharmacology and therapeutics, strategically positions it at the crossroads between biology and medicine.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will be based in SBI. He/she/they will work on a project funded through a European Partnership for Personalised Medicine (EP PerMEd) joint transnational grant co-funded by Research Ireland. This transdisciplinary project is performed by a multidisciplinary team of experts in basic sciences, bioinformatics, and clinicians from academic institutions in Spain, Portugal and Ireland. This project is supervised by Dr David Gómez and focuses on the characterisation of colorectal cancer using molecular biology, proteomics, and computational analysis. The PD will be based in SBI's lab and will perform computational analysis to identify candidate therapeutic targets for the treatment of patients with fetal-type tumours. The PD will work in collaboration with experimentalists in SBI and with other researchers in the consortium. The candidate has to be competent in the use of bioinformatics approaches to analyse and integrate different OMICS datasets to generate computational statistical and/or mechanistic mathematical models for the characterisation of clinical samples and have previous experience in the study of colorectal cancer or similar solid tumours is necessary.

PD1 Salary: €47,273 - €53,925 Per Annum

Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Closing date: 12:00 noon (local Irish time) on 03 July 2026.

Applications must be submitted by the closing date and time specified. Any applications which are still in progress at the closing time of 12:00 noon (Local Irish Time) on the specified closing date will be cancelled automatically by the system. UCD are unable to accept late applications.

UCD do not require assistance from Recruitment Agencies. Any CVs submitted by Recruitment Agencies will be returned.

The PD1 position is intended for early-stage researchers, either just after completion of a PhD or for someone entering a new area for the first time. If you have already completed your PD1 stage in UCD or will soon complete a PD1, or you are an external applicant whose total Postdoctoral experience, inclusive of the duration of the advertised post, would exceed 4 years, you should not apply and should refer to PD2 posts instead.

Prior to application, further information (including application procedure) should be obtained from the Work at UCD website: https://www.ucd.ie/workatucd/jobs/
