Post Summary

The Professor /Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is an academic post between Trinity College, The Dublin Dental University Hospital and St. James's Hospital. This academic post will have a role in and contribute to establishing the national OMFS service at St James at the forefront of developments in Irish Healthcare through academic leadership in OMFS and participation in the Academic Health Science System (AHSS) partnership model. The AHSS partnership model is an integration of University, Hospital and CHO which aims to educate health professionals and leaders for the future and to produce excellence in interdisciplinary research, team science, patient care and creative community services (Chief Academic Office Group (CAO 2022, p 8).

The post was established in the School of Dental Science, Trinity College Dublin to harness the synergies in education and translation research between OMFS, Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine and Dentistry. The post will support the delivery of the national training programmes in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery, specialist training in Oral Surgery and in Oral Medicine and for educational programmes in the School of Dental Science, and the School of Medicine, Trinity College.

Post Status: Permanent

Salary: This appointment will be made on the Associate Profsesor/Consultant, Public Only Consultant Contract (POCC23), Academic, salary scale at a point in line with current Government pay Policy. https://healthservice.hse.ie/staff/pay/pay-scales/

  • Applicants should articulate a clear vision for the development of research in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with a view to improving patient care.
  • Applicants should have demonstrable experience in teaching in third level institutions; the development of courses and curricula is considered an advantage.
  • Applicants should have experience in the development of clinical services, and demonstrate insight in the development of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery specialist provision within the Hospitals.
  • Applicants should demonstrate the qualities of leadership, professionalism and collegiality and dedication to the discipline of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

2. A comprehensive curriculum vitae;

3. Include a full list of publications to date;

4. A comprehensive research plan (summarising research plan to be carried out in the next 5 years and including details of funding to be sought - maximum 2 pages);

5. Teaching statement (summarising teaching experience and approach - maximum 2 pages)

6. The names and contact details (i.e. address, e-mail, etc.) of three referees
