JOB SYNOPSIS

Over the last decade, the Department has made significant progress in developing its research infrastructure, capacity, and strategic priorities, while delivering research with substantial societal and economic impact. This approach has enhanced the Department's national and international reputation, with PESS recognised in the top 50 globally, ranking 41st in the 2026 QS World University Rankings for Sport Related Subjects, and identified as the top ranked department in Ireland in this discipline. Research leadership within the Department is reflected in its strong record of national and international collaborations, successful competitive funding applications, and impactful interdisciplinary research that contributes to policy, practice, and societal wellbeing. These achievements are complemented by the Department's strong publication and citation record, demonstrating its position as a national and international leader in sport and physical education research. PESS hosts three established research centres Physical Activity for Health (PAfH), Physical Education, Physical Activity and Youth Sport (PEPAYS), and the Sport and Human Performance Research Centre (SHPRC). It delivers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to over 1,000 students. These include the BSc in Physical Education, Sport and Exercise Sciences, and Exercise Health Fitness & Management, alongside the Professional Master of Education (Physical Education), MSc programmes in Sport Performance, Applied Sports Coaching, and Sport Psychology, and the Professional Doctorate and Structured PhD programmes. Applicants should have experience conducting high-quality research, as demonstrated by publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals and a clear trajectory for future research dissemination. Evidence of high-impact publications and awareness of their potential beyond academia is expected. Applicants should demonstrate experience in delivering high-quality teaching and conducting impactful research, evidenced by publications in respected international peer-reviewed journals and a developing pipeline of ongoing research activity. Evidence of interdisciplinary engagement, external collaboration, and awareness of the broader societal impact of research and teaching practice will be an advantage.

Salary Scale: €49,424 - €67,221 p.a. pro rata
