Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a part-time (0.75FTE), fixed-term position as Research Assistant in Physics, School of Natural Sciences, College of Science and Engineering at the University of Galway, Ireland.
This position is funded by ERASMUS+, the EU flagship programme funding education, training, youth and sport. The position is available at 0.75 FTE from 01/09/26 to 30/11/28.
Folklore and Arts Bridging Learning and Expression through STEAM Education (FABLES) uses digital storytelling as a way to connect people with their environment, imparts digital skills and develops links between science and folklore in three partner countries. FABLES actively involves older adults from diverse socio-cultural backgrounds, ensuring that educational opportunities are accessible to all. The successful candidate will work with community groups to deliver digital storytelling workshops, to identify scientific themes in collected stories, design and deliver science workshops in response to the collected stories, and evaluate the process for impact. SilverSTEAM works to widen STEAM education and fostering inclusion, using innovative workshops to engage older members of the community with science and art activities.
Salary: Research Assistant salary scale €34,129 - €44,311 per annum, (subject to the project's funding limitations), and pro rata for shorter and/or part-time contracts.
The default position for all new public sector appointments is the 1st point of the salary scale. This may be reviewed, and consideration afforded to appointment at a higher point on the payscale (subject to the project's funding limitations), where evidence of prior years' equivalent experience is accepted in determining placement on the scale above point 1, subject to the maximum of the scale.
