Assistant Quantity Surveyor

We are currently seeking an ambitious and motivated Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to all aspects of commercial management within a leading construction company.
The Role
Reporting to the Project Quantity Surveyor and Commercial Lead, the Assistant Quantity Surveyor will support the commercial team in managing and reporting the current and forecast financial position of assigned projects. The successful candidate will assist with procurement, subcontractor management, commercial reporting, valuations, payments, document control and cost management activities in accordance with JJ Rhatigan's commercial procedures and reporting requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement Tendering
Assist with take-offs, tender documentation preparation, issuing enquiries and tracking tender returns.
Support the development and maintenance of subcontractor and supplier databases.
Review tender quotations against project scope, drawings and specifications.

Assist in preparing tender comparisons and identifying scope gaps, exclusions and commercial risks.
Subcontractor Consultant Procurement
Support the procurement and appointment process for subcontractors and consultants.
Assist in preparing internal approval documentation and subcontract orders.
Ensure all required contractual documentation is completed before work commences on site.

Monitor compliance with company procurement procedures.
Valuations, Payments Cost Control
Assist in preparing monthly client applications and valuations.
Assess subcontractor and consultant payment applications.
Support the preparation and issue of payment certificates and notices.
Upload approved payments to SAP and assist with payment processing requirements.

Maintain accurate records of valuations, payments and commercial correspondence.
Commercial Reporting
Support the preparation of monthly Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR) reports.
Assist with project cashflow forecasting and cost reporting.
Contribute to monthly commercial reviews and project reporting requirements.

Ensure reporting deadlines are achieved.
Document Control
Maintain accurate commercial records and filing systems on SharePoint.

Manage project documentation including applications, assessments, variation registers, cost reports and certifications.
Commercial Support
Assist in the management of project variations and change control processes.
Support the commercial team in the resolution of commercial issues and disputes.

Help compile supporting documentation and records where required.
Value Engineering Purchasing
Identify and propose value engineering opportunities.

Assist with material procurement activities to achieve best value and programme requirements.
Estimating Support
Provide support to the estimating team during tender periods as required.
Assist with measurements, enquiries, quotation analysis and tender reviews.
Requirements
Degree or Higher Diploma in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics or a related discipline.
Minimum 2 years' experience in a Quantity Surveying or Assistant Quantity Surveying role within the construction industry.
Strong understanding of construction contracts, procurement processes and commercial management principles.
Excellent numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Experience with SAP or similar commercial management systems would be advantageous.
Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
Ability to work effectively within a team environment and communicate confidently with internal and external stakeholders.
