- MBBS or equivalent
- Current Irish Medical Council Registration Certificate
- Valid ACLS certificate
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in a Health Care environment in Ireland
- Minimum of 1 year Cardiology Experience at Registrar level.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the general direction and control of the Head of HR, the Cardiology Registrar will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities, as per Hospital policy & in line with JCI accreditation requirements.
Patient-Care
- All aspects of patient-care including History taking & Physical Examination, to include.
- Decision-making; Clinical skills; Procedural skills, Prescription of Medications, and Completion of all patient records to meet all hospital policy & JCI requirements.
- Assess, Order and review all investigations; radiology, laboratory, microbiology, pathology, haematology and document findings for patients as requested by/ in collaboration with the appropriate Consultant.
- Provide pre and post procedure care for patients in the Cath lab: Assist with Cath lab procedures as appropriate;
- Co-ordinate, complete consents as appropriate;
- Co-ordinate, complete discharge plans and summaries, and so ensure timely discharge of all Cardiology patients.
- Registrar will also supervise SHO/Intern participating on all of the above mentioned activities.
- Co-ordinate all Cardiology Admissions: All direct acute and elective admissions to the Cardiology service will always be co-ordinated/ completed by the Registrar or by the SHO/Intern under Registrar's supervision.
- The Registrar will write a comprehensive admission note or review SHO's/intern's admission note on all new patients. The note will focus on: salient features of the history; critical physical examination findings; and most importantly outline specific major problems with thoughtful assessment and plans for each.
- The Cardiology Registrar will commence duty each morning by attending CCU handover and review; evaluate any patients and feedback to relevant Consultant. This includes the use and removal of cardiology devices e.g. Telemetry use and removal.
- The Registrar will make work-rounds, independent of the Consultant Physician. These rounds will ensure follow-up and review of all labs/x-rays/scans ordered; follow-up of all critically ill patients; discharge plans; with the Cardiac Rehab CNS and any other nurse specialists/ CNM involved.
- Formal presentations of all new patients are required during rounds. The Registrar should review before rounds and attend with consultant where possible.
- Attend and participate in the weekly Cardiology MDT & case conference.
- Demonstrate competence in dealing with all cardiac and medical emergencies.
- To respond to any adverse occurrences e.g. blood guidelines, infection control etc.
- To implement quality standards ensuring that a quality service is provided at all times.
- To participate in Hospital Quality Improvement and Risk Management Initiatives.
- To maintain effective liaison with all staff, Cardiology consultants, relevant consultants, nursing staff, healthcare staff, administrative assistants, interns and SHO Colleagues.
- To undertake any other duties that may be reasonably required. arise if transfer of patients to an alternative institution is necessary
- To comply with Health and Safety Regulations, ensuring safe work practices in a safe working environment.
