Senior Pharmacist - Antimicrobial Stewardship & Clinical Duties

Purpose of the Role:

The Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) pharmacist will work as part of a progressive and dynamic Pharmacy Team to provide excellence in the care of paediatric patients across CHI under the general direction of the Pharmacist Executive Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for the implementation of a robust antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) programme across CHI that aims to ensure safe and effective antimicrobial use and minimise antimicrobial resistance. Close collaboration with the Infections Diseases consultants, consultant Microbiologists, and the Infection Prevention and Control team will be essential. The antimicrobial stewardship pharmacist has responsibility for implementing, monitoring and auditing antimicrobial stewardship relating to paediatric and neonatal care. The AMS pharmacist should be up to date with trends in information technology and is responsible for managing the antimicrobial guidelines app (under the governance of the CHI Formulary Pharmacist) and for maintaining AMS prescribing principle. The AMS pharmacist will also be responsible for providing regular education across the multidisciplinary team regarding the safe, effective and appropriate use of antimicrobials. The post holder will also be assigned clinical and dispensary duties as appropriate the role and will work collaboratively with other pharmacy department staff to deliver clinical pharmacy services and ensuring safe and effective care.

The post holder will be expected to:
• Adhere to Department and all Hospital policies at all times.
• Adhere to procedures and guidelines in relation to Child Protection.
• Embrace and support any changes in technology and to assist in the implementation and operation of these changes.
• • Perform such other duties appropriate to the post as may be assigned from time to time by the Pharmacist Executive Manager or a nominee.
• Be completely flexible in relation to the performance of your duties.
• Participate and cooperate with legislative and regulatory requirements with regard to Quality, Risk, Health and Safety.
• Participate and cooperate with internal and external evaluations of hospital structures, services and processes as required.
• Initiate, support and implement quality improvement initiatives in their area which are in keeping with the hospital's continuous quality improvement programme.
• Work with the national expert groups as required

Essential Criteria:
• Have at least 3 years satisfactory post registration hospital experience
• Be registered with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland as a qualified pharmacist.
