Summary of Position

The Loading Shovel Operator will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Company’s loading shovels and other mobile plant equipment. The role includes loading cargo into the Company’s stores, preparing orders for customer deliveries, and maintaining all equipment and operational areas. The operator will also maintain accurate records and carry out additional bulk store-related tasks as required.

Responsibilities / Principal Duties

  • Operate the Company’s loading shovels and other mobile plant to load and unload bulk cargo to and from Company stores.

  • Prepare and clean stores between shipments and perform other operational tasks as required.

  • Clean, maintain, and conduct routine checks on all loading shovels and mobile plant equipment.

  • Maintain the cleanliness and upkeep of stores, yards, and ancillary areas.

  • Keep accurate records and carry out duties related to quality control, feed hygiene, health and safety, and other compliance programmes, including product temperature checks.

  • Operate the Company’s weighbridge software as required, supporting weighbridge operators.

  • Undertake any other duties reasonably required by management and support shipside operations where applicable.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Full, clean Category B driving licence, or an equivalent licence valid in Ireland.

  • Fluent in English.

  • Proven experience operating large loading shovels and related machinery, including loading trailers with high-tip buckets.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Knowledge of animal feeds, correct handling methods, storage quality preservation, and identification of potential quality issues.

Hours of Work

The normal hours of work are eight hours per day, worked on a rotating two-shift cycle as follows:

  • 07:00 to 15:00

  • 13:00 to 21:00

Employees will be required to work either shift in accordance with the roster issued by management. In addition, employees may be required to work overtime, including weekends, to meet operational requirements.
