We have an excellent opportunity for a Financial Accountant to join the Finance team at Mediolanum on a 12 Month Fixed Term Contract basis.
The successful candidate will work closely with members of the Finance function and key external stakeholders to support the financial accounting close process, management and group reporting, and the preparation of statutory financial statements.
The role requires strong technical accounting capability within a life insurance environment, combined with hands-on experience of month-end close processes, controls, and reconciliations.
You will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial information reported to the Board and Group.
Duties
• Contribute to the month-end close process, ensuring assigned accounting activities are completed in line with internal procedures, deadlines, and control standards.
• Ensure that all data inputs into the general ledger are subject to appropriate validation and checks, and are recorded accurately and on a timely basis.
• Prepare and post fee income and rebate income journals, ensuring correct general ledger classification and reconciliation with MIFL and third party providers.
• Process investment related journals, obtaining source data from outsourced service providers and ensuring all related reconciliations are completed accurately, including new money bank reconciliations.
• Prepare assigned bank reconciliations, ensuring all reconciling items are investigated and cleared on a timely basis, with no unexplained items at month end.
• Post and reconcile inter company transactions, resolving differences with Group entities and ensuring inter company balances are fully agreed and closed for reporting.
• Perform New Money bank reconciliations, together with monthly premium and claims reconciliations.
• Post policyholder reserves and unit linked liabilities on a monthly basis using data provided by the Actuarial function.
• Post IAS related adjustments in respect of investment contracts.
• Process and post German and Italian branch invoices, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal accounting policies.
• Support the preparation of semi annual and annual statutory financial statements.
• Prepare monthly management accounts for the insurance entity for reporting to the Group.
• Maintain up to date procedures and ensure appropriate documentation and audit trails are in place.
• Proactively identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, and reporting efficiency within Finance and undertake routine and ad hoc tasks as required by the CFO or senior management.
Skills & Competencies
• Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookup formulas, and data analysis techniques.
• Quick learner, confident communicator, and comfortable following detailed instructions while also working independently when required.
• High level of self-initiative with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet strict reporting deadlines.
• Well organised, resilient, and solutions-focused, with a strong drive to resolve issues efficiently.
• Demonstrates professionalism, credibility, and authority when dealing with internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience
• Newly Qualified accountant.
• Proven life insurance accounting experience, with an interest in working in a dynamic and evolving insurance environment.
• Previous experience in a leading audit firm is an advantage.
• Previous experience of month end reporting and close is desirable.
• Solid understanding and experience of SAP and Tagetik would be beneficial.
• Experience with AI-enabled tools (e.g. Microsoft Copilot) would be desirable.
