Main Purpose of Role:
As a Project Engineer, you will deliver mechanical engineering solutions for MEICA and Civil works on water and wastewater treatment plants. You will manage the design, develop, and implement systems for water and wastewater projects with cross-functional teams. The role requires technical expertise, proactive problem-solving, and project management from design to completion.
What you will be doing:
- Design Leadership: Lead the design and system integration for water and wastewater treatment projects. Oversee all stages of mechanical design, including site surveys, feasibility studies, detailed design, and tender pricing.
- Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate closely with civil, process, electrical, ICA, and H&S teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems into the overall project. Provide technical guidance and coordinate with both internal and external design and project delivery teams.
- Procurement and Equipment Selection: Manage the selection and procurement of mechanical equipment such as pumps, valves, tanks, and pipework. Ensure all materials comply with company policies, industry regulations, and project specifications.
- Subcontractor Management: Coordinate and manage subcontractors to ensure their mechanical work aligns with project objectives, timelines, and quality standards. Ensure subcontractors meet all contractual requirements and deliverables.
- Site Monitoring and Progress Reviews: Conduct regular site visits to monitor the progress of mechanical work, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure safety and compliance with established standards.
- Client and Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong client relationships from project commencement through to close-out. Provide technical support, updates, and advice throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring client objectives and deadlines are met.
- Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance: Ensure the consistent implementation of health, safety, quality, and environmental procedures in line with Murphy and client-defined standards. Proactively address any performance, scope, cost, or schedule issues.
- Project Reporting and Documentation: Prepare detailed project plans, reports, and status updates for clients and internal stakeholders. Highlight key milestones, risks, and mitigation strategies to keep all parties informed.
- Continuous Improvement: Participate in project review meetings and incorporate lessons learned into future projects. Contribute to process improvements across the company, enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of mechanical project delivery.
- Team Development: Foster a collaborative team environment and contribute to a positive and supportive culture. Mentor junior engineers and encourage a focus on continuous personal and professional development.
Who we are looking for:
- Degree in Mechanical or civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) is preferred.
- At least 3 years of proven experience as a Project Engineer in the water and wastewater industry.
- Strong commercial acumen and the ability to manage project budgets, timelines, and resources effectively.
- Ability to collaborate with multiple disciplines (civil, electrical, process, etc.) and provide technical and commercial guidance in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of resolving technical issues and managing project changes.
- In-depth knowledge of health, safety, and environmental standards in mechanical design and construction, particularly in water and wastewater sectors.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Familiarity with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively liaise with clients, subcontractors, and team members.
- Ability to engage with clients and stakeholders effectively, ensuring their needs are met throughout the project lifecycle.
